“A hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

We arrived at the City Hotel in Rome on our Honeymoon to find that our tour operator made a mistake with our booking. Reception quickly rectified the error. The room we were given unfortunately was not to our liking and we managed to get it changed to a bigger, quieter and lighter room the next day without any problems. All staff on reception were excellent.
The room we stayed in for the remainder of our trip was perfect, if this had been given to us from the start there would not have been any problems.
All of the Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely, the breakfast room is really cosy and the cappuchino and coffee the best we've had in Italy! When we had a very early morning trip to the Vatican city we were given quick and attentive service.
The Hotel was immaculately clean and the domestic staff were very friendly and kind. We didn't get any help with our cases and there are 2 lifts to go up or down - if your patient there wont be a problem.
The hotel is on the second floor and has an interesting history, which I learnt more about in the room information , with mosaic tiles on the stairs and attractive windows leading to the entrance which is always staffed day and night.
The location is ideal to visitors to Rome .The Spanish steps are only down the main road and the Trevi Fountain very close by also, we enjoy walking and found it a brilliant central location. We would use this hotel again!

Room Tip: Best to avoid Room 207

“Loved It - close to everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Booked through Bookings and got a great rate. Read the TA reviews. We didn't come to Rome to watch TV so the TV channels were fine. Hotel was very clean - very friendly staff that was very helpful with directions, reservations and suggestions. Nice breakfast and coffee in the morning. More than enough to get your day started before you left the hotel. We wanted a place that let us walk and thsi was close to everything. We could open the windows and shutters .Very enjoyable and I would recommend and would stay again.

“Good city hotel with friendly staff”

We stayed here with our two children (10 and 8). The family room was essentially a smallish room with a double bed on a mezzanine level above. I saw another family room similarly designed. We had no view whatsoever. But, it is in a great location, is quiet, the staff are charming, and the rooms were
spotlessly clean. The breakfast is simple but good, and the cappucino was excellent.

“Not a good experience”

I think it should be a 2 stars is in a second floor of an ancient building the lobby was depressing, the room was average but no fridge, the breakfast was lousy, there were nobody to help with the luggage has to take two different elevators. The only good thing was the location very close to spanish steps and Fontana di Trevi.

“PERFECT LOCATION -LOW VALUE FOR MONEY”

It was our second visit to Rome and have liked to stay in the same area as our last time ,near the Antic Rome near to Spanish Steers even though we know that it will cost us more than any other area in Rome. City hotel is 3* star hotel but after our opinion it is not more than 2*.The value for money very low.First of all, I have sent one e mail to their e mail address, inform them when we will arrive .We never took any answer back. Upon our arrival an impolite receptionist welcome us.Then my wife had inform him that she has fear for use the hotel lift ,he told her that there was not any other way to go up stairs. Of course it was, by our support using the fair escape exist .That it was not able for him to her know…..It is on the web site that there is an internet connection all over the hotel. It was not. We have the family room 201 and it was able either in the or in the corridor .I have to work in the reception. The breakfast it was very poor ,no eggs no normal cheese not fruit .On other older receptionist had bad the things better for us .The staff in the breakfast room and the cleaning staff very good.I would not recommend this hotel to any other …….
