“Surprised me majorly!”

Myself and my Gf had traveled over with friends.

The original plan was for us all to stay in Alessandros for one night but there was a last minute change and it was only myself and the Gf that were to stay there.

Originally we were not happy as we didn't want to stay in a hostel, we wanted some luxury in Rome and the price of the private room was near enough the same as other bnb's.

On arrival we were met with two very friendly (Austrialian I think) men at the desk who explained a little about the hostel and promoted the pub crawl that was to take place that night. Our room was one minute walk from the main area and up four flights of stairs however there is an elevator that you can throw your luggage into if its heavy instead of walking up the stairs. The room itself ; some pros and cons.

PRO'S: The room was very clean and somewhat spacious. The beds were moderately cosy with comfy pillows. The TV in the room had some English channels such as music video channels which is good when your getting ready. There is locked Safe in the room which was good security for us. Noise level was kept minimum although my Gf did hear bit of noise at 7am but I was knocked out!

CONS: The room was a little cold and although it had an air condition machine it took a while for it to kick in, but this wouldn't apply if you were travelling in summer. We had a shared bathroom with the rest of our wing. On arrival the bathrooms were very clean but as day progressed there was some bad stenches coming out of bathroom and travelling into the hall. Would recommend a private bathroom if things like that bother you. There also wasn't many mirrors in the room, only one at back of the wardrobe.

Pros and Cons of the overall Hostel:

PRO'S: Handy location as really close to Termini. Breakfast deal for 3 euro has plenty of fruit juice, cereal , coffee , toast, simple and cheap. Friendly staff at desk and in bar.

Cons: As I said the overall hostel was relatively cold. The luggage department downstairs doesn't seem all that safe so decided against putting luggage down there. Stated free breakfast but had pay 3 euro. No pub-grub as such, pub menu would of been handy.

We also went to the pub-crawl which is organised every tuesday friday and saturday.

For 20 euro there is an open bar where you can knock back as much alochol for an hour. Maybe during the summer months this might be more busier but there wasn't that much of a queue. Your also given a t shirt to wear which is optional but I wore to bed that night. We were then brought to another bar after getting the metro a few stops and which sobered people up which some may say is good but really after being at open bar it would've been more beneficial to let us dance it off. On arrival at the bar your given a shot of what tasted like orange juice. The bar was really crammed but not that great atmosphere as no music really playing and no room to dance. There was only two bathrooms too which is crazy!

The next stage of the pub-crawl was the club itself , it was an experience. We were brought a good bit away from the metro station and i really didn't feel all that safe to be honest in the club and on the walk. Somewhere more local would of been better. They stated that this was the best club in rome.. ten euro drinks, not feeling all that safe, sleazy men perving on the girls. I think not!!

Overall I would recommend Alessandros; just get a private bathroom between you and your friends. And maybe skip the club part of the pub-crawl !

Room Tip: skip the club part of pubcrawl and get your own bathroom !

“What a hostel should be like!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I stayed at Alessandro's Palace for 2 nights this past December, and it was a really nice experice! The place is great! Great location (only blocks away from Termini, so you get bus, metro and train in one), the rooms are really nice, big, clean, private bathrooms (can't beat that!!!), nice windows, and at night, they are really quite. The bar-at-night-dinningroom-during-the-day area is nice, it has plenty of tables, beautiful paintings, and the chef is a lovely guy! Although you must pay for breakfast, it's worth every penny! Plenty of everything and delicious! You are allowed one hour every day of free internet and that was enough for me! Those guys at the reception are awesome, they speak like 100 languages so there is no comunication problem at all, they are nice, helpful and corteous. I can see myself staying here again, definetely!

“Great location, reasonable price, great staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

We were in Rome for a few nights and chose to stay at Alessandro Palace. It is in a great location only steps from the Termini. Our room was a triple room with a private bath. The room was relatively spacious with room to move around the three twin beds and our three suitcases. The bathroom was recently renovated and was very clean. Our room was on the 5th floor, which was a little difficult at the end of a long day sightseeing because there was no elevator when we were there. They were however, in the process of installing one. I would have to say if you are visiting Rome on a budget, this is the place for you. You get what you pay for. Alessandro Palace isn't a 5-star luxury hotel. It's a hostel, but I can honestly say it exceeded our expectations.

“Good price, good service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

We stayed at Alessandro's Palace for five days in November. The service was excellent, and the bar was a fun place to meet other travelers. We stayed in three different rooms (we didn't have a reservation so had to move around a lot). Although all rooms were clean, two were in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint, and had outdated showers/hair driers. Wifi is not included, although you do get one free hour of internet each day. However, the wifi does not work in the rooms (although it is supposed to). Breakfast costs 3 euro, and includes white rolls, canned fruit, white toast, corn flakes, cheese and sliced ham. All in all, it is a good budget choice with helpful staff, but don't expect any extras.
