“what we were looking for....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2010

Headding to Rome for a family wedding, this hotel offered a chapper option compared to the other 4 star hotels and good location (knowning that car is mandatory to move around). All facilities are there (except restaurant which is not required from the vairety of offer in the surroundings), staff were helpful, plenti of parking space and hotel easily accessible.
The weather didn't let us use the pool and the patios but for a loger stay it would be a plus.
The hotel itself is well runned and clean the surroundings are offering a big variety of activities and day trips.

“A smart hotel let down by little annoying things”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

I found this hotel a mixture of things, it has the potential to be a great little retreat but then lets itself down by doing silly things, i shall explain. We arrived here for a four night stay due to a wedding. We were well aware of the 'remote' location and this didnt bother us. Yes taxis are a nightmare here in italy, we were quoted 90 euros one way at the airport for a taxi, we overheard someone else saying that they paid 160 euros! We decided to public transport it, 10 euros each; but it took us three hours; one train, one tube and a hot bus ride but it was still a 70 euros cheaper and far more satisfying! On arrival the setting of the hotel is amazing! sat on top of the volcano overlooking the lake, checking in was easy and the room that we had had a view of the lake! Rooms; large, clean, comfortable and a rather small bathroom but hot water and a good shower, do you really need anything else in a room that all you do is sleep in, o yes the walls are very thin as well!? Then the hiccups happened. On arrival we were some of the first paying guests of the season. Water was 2 euros a bottle for a 500ml. We were told that we could borrow the iron. The next day with more paying guest arriving water went up by a euro, the iron disappeared and we were told it was 2euros an item regardless if it was a T-shirt or a dress shirt, pool towels were being charged at 3 euros per towel, there was no restaurant in the evening due to it not being peak season. And the shuttle bus, with the prices they were charging it should have been a Royal Royce! 25 euros and then 15 euros per person for a 1km trip into Marino!!!!!! Needless to say we used our feet, fine if you are like us: 30's, no children but a nightmare if you have disablities or children. The 1km walk takes approx 15 mins with some very good restaurants in Marino but be prepared for italian drivers and no street lighting at night! The lake also has good food and is about a 20mins walk. Breakfast is large and there is no limit, toast, cakes, cereal etc.
The pool is large, clean and deep and the grounds and hotel well looked after. The thing that really annoyed me is the charges as they know they have a captive audience and taxis wont take you anywhere for less than 20 euros. Why not stagger the cost for journeys? there is a station 2 km down the road that will take you directly into termina ie central rome but the hotel are still asking 25 euros! i write this at the hotel about to embark on my trip back to the airport and due not being able to get the station{ Refusing to pay 25 euros + 15 euros with my wife} our route is as follows: bus into Marino, bus into rome, tube to termina and then train to the airport, you have been warned.
If it wasnt for these hidden costs i would recommend it to anyone because the location is lovely, further enough from Rome to be in the country but near enough to be tourist. If you have hired a car no problems if you havent then hopefully by reading this you will have made your mind up.

“15Km from Rome and centrally location for Castelli Romani”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2010

The hotel is set between Lago Albano and Castel Gandolfo in a very quite area. We paid 80 Euro for 1 night for a 4star hotel where we found very helpful people at the reception desk, nice continental breakfast with different kinds of cakes. The room was very spacious and the bed confortable. The bathroom was a little bit tiny and also a shower box. But this price has an excellent quality/price...I would not recommend it for people who want to go every day to Rome, the traffic is bad and for sure you need a car to reach this hotel, otherwise with public transports or taxis is too complicated and also too expensive!

“Not for light sleepers, those without a car, or those with an eye on costs.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

Stayed here with my family for 4 days from 21st July. We were looking for a relaxed few days at the end of a cruise that returned to Civitavettichie. We wanted a nice hotel with a pool onthe outskirts of Rome, this seemed to fit the bill.
We had great hopes for this hotel but unfortunatly it did not deliver. To stay here you need two things, 1) a hire car (The hotel shuttle bus comes at a cost, even the 1.5km trip to the local train station was costing £30 for a family of 2 adults and one child, trips futher afield are staggeringly expensive)
and 2) you need to be a very very sound sleeper (All of the hotel doors need to be slammed shut in order to get them to close so unless you can sleep through the constant banning you will, like us, be up for most of the night.
The air conditioning does not really work either and even after running for two days it did not manage to drop the temperature in our room or our kids room by more than 1 degree so we had to sleep in rooms with temperatures of 26deg, not very comfortable.
The hotel has no dining facilities so you need to go out at night so you need to budget travel costs of at least £60 on top of the cost of the meal unless you have a car.

This is a reasonable hotel (a good UK two star hotel or an average UK three star) , quite clean, quite comfortable and if you can sleep soundly with all the banging going on then it is actually in quite a good position for independant travellers with own transport.

A last word of warning, the hotel sits at the top of a hill, if you do not have a car then you will need to walk down a very steep and long road (at leat 1.5Km to the nearest town) with no pavement and fast moving traffic to get to anywhere. It's a hard slog ang even worse on the way back. A taxi will come if you call but it will cost at leat £30 for even the shortest trip.

Breakfast was basic but done the job. We wanted to borraow an iron to press some of the kids clothes but the hotel would not supply one, they did offer to press items at £4 per item. This we found to be typical of the hotels quest for additional charging .

In future I would look at he alternatives as we all agreed that it was a potentially nice hotel that was spoilt by the difficult position the noise and all the add on costs associated with staying here.
