“Surprisingly delightful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here for three nights, and we weren't expecting much, since the price was so low. However, it was a wonderful surprise when we spoke witht he friendly staff and entered our lovely, clean room. The beds were comfortable, the shower was great and there were free bottles of water everyday. The street noise is loud, so bring earplugs if you have a problem sleeping. The staff were very helpful with directions and recommending places to eat. Internet is free in the lobby. The hotel is literally right next to the Vatican! Breakfast was bleh but included in the price. They put Nutella inside a chocolate croissant WEIRD. You also need to get to breakfast eraly because the seating is limited. The only downside is that the metro is not very close to the hotel. So if you have tons of luggage or are exhausted after a long day of sightseeing, getting to the hotel from the metro is agonizing. We would definitely stay here agian, bringing less luggage and splurging for a cab from the metro station.

Room Tip: Try to get a room off the main street for less noise.

“Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Hotel Colors was in a fantastic location. The rooms could be very cold, but they did provide additional blankets. There is a cozy little balcony on the 3rd floor, perfect for sipping espresso and nibbling on the breakfast goodies.

“Good Value in Pricey Rome, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed for a week and were pretty satisfied. Comfy bed. Bright decor. Good TV. Nice ensuite bath, though "wide-bodied" people might have a squeeze into the shower stall. Of course, you carry your bags up the stairs, it is a budget hotel in an old bldg. Prati is a great "normal n-hood" -- near enough to access the Vatican and Centro Storico, but away from the touristo madness. Though the competent staff might not be the most cheery group, they always came through w/ accurate and helpful info/directions. Breakfast was fine. The coffee was not as strong as found at nearby cafes. One oddity was the steaming hot water that flushed the toilet....... We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

“Amazing for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Rooms were clean and gorgeous ! I loved it. Bright and colorful. Great amenities. The price was amazing for everything we got. The breakfast was delicious and a great variety. Me and my three girlfriends went here and we enjoyed ever second of it ! We loved drinking coffee on the beautiful rooftop terrace! This hotel is relaxing, not for the partying type.

Room Tip: I shared with three other girls and it was fine room wise. It was nice having our own bathroom.

“Clean with good amenities - but no hostel...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

I had an excellent experience with Hotel Colors. Very clean rooms, along with towels, linen, and a bright atmostphere make this palce a comfortable place to stay for a couple of days at a reasonable price...for Rome.
Where my difficulty with this place comes in is when you start talking about it as a hostel. It is obvious that this Hotel has converted some of its larger (and smaller) rooms into dorm-style accomodations in order to drum up some business. This is fine, and the rooms are both bright and large enough (mostly) to accomodate this idea, but they have yet to buy into the rest of the hostel vibe, which can be difficult. There is no secure storage space in this "hostel" except for the one safe in each room, the hotel kind with the changable code. That is great if you are by yourself and you get there first, but not so good if you are together with other people or don't get it first.
They also do not have luggage storage, and although they are nice enough to let you leave your luggage there, you leave it in the hall, and they do a poor job of monitoring it.
The breakfast is good for the price and you can eat as much as you want, which is nice when you are an all-day walker like I am.
All in all, this is a pretty good palce to stay, and in a pinch I would stay there again, but I would look for another place first I think.

Room Tip: Get a room with the ensuite. The price difference isn't taht much on the dorm end of things and...
