“will only here again stay as last resort!”

My husband and I booked a hotel (Madison Hotel) closer to Termini Station prior to arriving in Rome. Upon arrival we were told they had a group of 250 kids in the hotel and the receptionist suggested we move to their partner hotel. We didn't have an issue with it so we agreed.

We had forgotten to write down an address for a tour we'd booked so we asked the receptionist we could get the code for the internet/computer in the lobby. She handed us a prepaid card with a scratcher on it that was already scratched out. When asked about it she said it should still work. Taking her word for it we tried to log on to the computer. It wouldn't work, so we asked her about it and her response was "sorry that's only for laptops" when we asked her for a refund and she said it was impossible and we'd have to buy another card for the computer in the lobby. Any other time we needed anything from the desk, the answer was always "sorry we can't do that" or "my collegue will take care of it" and it was never taken care of, even something as simple as telling us where we can get water (the water was unpotable in the rooms.)

The rooms were decent, the bathrooms were small. The breakfast was TERRIBLE! The food had been left out overnight and the coffee was disgusting. The overall experience we had at this hotel was terrible. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

“Worst hotel in Rome!”

This dark, dingy and dirty hotel will make you regret you ever came to Rome. The "included" breakfast is disgusting, even the coffee is bad - how do you get Italian coffee wrong? The bathrooms smelled like sewer gas, hallways had a pungent odor. You feel like you are sleeping in a bat cave, complete with the dirt, must and smells.

DO NOT BOOK WITH HOTEL GALLES! Its close to Termini Station, but you are better off spending 15 EUR and staying in a hotel further away from that sketch area.

“Irresponsible!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

Had confirmed booking from 26 May to 28 May 10 in the hotel, but on arrival were given this jolt that they did not have room for there was some problem. They did arrange for our transit and booking for another hotel, but then the location which had been chosen by us was not given. They had our email, could have always mailed us, but instead they chose to remain quite! Irresponsible

“Warm, clean and convenient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2009

As I had spent 2 hours in the travel agents choosing the San Marco hotel I was annoyed to find on arrival there that it was over-booked and we were re-located to hotel Galles around the corner. However, the Galles was warm, clean and just as convenient for the attractions. The down side was the restaurant only opened for groups so we weren't welcome there and the bar was closed down. As I was travelling with my mum, a hotel bar where we could have a drink on the premises at the end of a tiring day would have been convenient. The hotel lounge was permanently in darkness and therefore empty . The continental breakfast was adequate and all pastries and rolls were fresh. There was a wonderful family run trattoria further along the road (about 200 yards away) which was well worth a visit. The reception staff were pleasant enough and after asking for a recommended restaurant on our first night , we were escorted by a friendly porter! All in all we had an enjoyable experience in Rome

“Read the fine print before booking”

We were travelling with my sister and her husband and intially booked for four people into what we assumed would be a suite with two bedrooms. We were so wrong! We were given a room with 4 beds side by side! We were so exhausted from travelling that we spent the first night in this room but in the morning we asked for two separate rooms. This was given to us on the same floor, but at an extra cost. There was no mention of any other type of suite. Apart from this we found the hotel okay. It did include buffet style breakfast in the basement.
