“Don't stay there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2007

Stayed at the hotel for three nights. Booked there by CHA travel, a student travel group that also has adult tours. We were an adult tour. None of the smoke detectors were in working condition on any of the floors that I visited. All of the smoke detectors had their "guts" removed. When we complained to the management, we were told that it was o.k. because Italy didn't have a smoke detector law. I am not sure about that, but it didn't make our stay any safer. I would not allow my child to stay there, and we would not have stayed there if we had any other option. We did not receive our hotel itinerary until shortly before the start of the tour in the U.S.. The hotel looked good on its web site. Problems from the beginning. When we checked in there were not enough singles for our group. We had a number of single adults traveling with us. We were told that CHA was aware of the problem, but simply told the hotel to book anyone with the same last name into the doubles. That didn't solve the problem. The night manager in charge on one of the nights we were there was very obviously intoxicated, and smoking as well ( remember there were no noticeable working smoke detectors). When one of our group shouted at him to put the cigarette out, he put it out on the computer keyboard. Many complained about the lack of security. Many doors were found to be open when we returned from out day tour. One of the group complained that her mini-bar had been opened and all of the contents removed. She complained to the manager that she would not pay for the contents. After some discussion , he agreed. Many were charged for phone calls thay didn't make. We didn't find out about the charges until we were ready to leave for the airport when we checked out of the rooms at 4:00 a.m.. Our tour guide, who was excellent, told us just to leave the hotel as he did not want us to miss our plane. A person who was with another group was arguing with the manager about phone calls he said he did not make. I don't know how his problem ended as we left for the airport. Phones not all in working order. Some people did not receive wake up calls. It was especially bad on the morning that we left for the airport. Message light were on, but no messages. Breakfast good. Dinner poor. Good location near the termini. Very disappointed with CHA for booking us into this hotel

“good for the price...and large groups”

Went here with a big group for a college trip. The rooms wioth two single beds are small but bathrooms are really lovely and our room had a lovely balcony. The staff were helpful and friendly. Doesnt have any extras but perfect just as a place to sleep. I found the area very safe and lots of restaurnats close by. Try the Julius Ceasar disco pub round the corner for a good night out! Its only 2 metro stops from colloseum so good if you don;t mind being a little out...but not too far to walk back. Had a fantastic stay and love rome SSSooooooooo much! Go in off season though as this is much better and safer.

“Nice hotel, great price”

I will preface this review by saying that my husband and I REALLY lucked out with this hotel. Initially, we were booked at another establishment, but it was under repair, so they transferred our reservation to this hotel. We booked online at a rate of 69 euros/night (breakfast included).

When the staff at Galles Hotel heard it was our honeymoon, they upgraded our room - we had a granite floor, polished wood panelling and a jacuzzi bathtub. Definitely above what we had been expecting for the rate we paid! The staff was helpful and friendly, and we were overall quiet satisfied with our stay.

A few things worth mentioning:
- some of the hotel's rooms are in the adjacent building (like ours - it was on teh top floor) and the elevator is sketch. We climbed the stairs to the sixth floor, but not everyone will want to do that.
- there is another hotel on the 3rd floor of the hotel - the trashy owners smoke in the hallway and the smell filters up the staircase.
- breakfast quality is inferior - the fruit is canned, and both the juice and coffee are NOT drinkable
- the hot water was a bit unreliable - I never actually had a jacuzzi bath, but it was nice to soak my aching feet. :)

Overall, I recommend this hotel, but as I said, we had an excellent rate and received upgrades. :D

“good for a tourist”

When we arrived to the hotel, the first impression was not good. An old building, in an unpretty area in rome. We change opinion when we got in the hotel. The stuff was helpful, the rooms were pretty good and very clean with all comforts. It is good for its price. The breakfast was excellent. The other room of our company was good but some comforts like air condition was out of order. It is near the train and bus cntral stations. We will restay in this hotel next time we return to rome
