“top location, fantastic staff”

Location of this hotel for any visitors to the Vatican, and Rome in general. We stayed in the smallest room with a small bed and we were still very comfortable and didn't feel squashed. We were in the first room next to reception and were initially concerned about noise from the reception. We needn't have worried as the hotel was incredibly quite and peaceful. We couldn't even hear the phones ringing!

The staff were absolutely excellent - helpful and accommodating. As a lesbian couple sharing a bed we were concerned about the type of reception we might get when checking into a hotel which appears to have religious persuasions. I'm delighted to report it was not at all a problem and not an eye lid was batted.

We had a glorious two days there and are already hoping for a return trip.

I cannot fault this hotel!

“The best in Rome - Over and Over again.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is the only place I will stay in Rome. I absolutely adore this hotel, the service, and everything about it. I travel to Rome frequently, as it is one of my favorite cities, and I have stayed at the Residenza Paolo VI at least 4 times in the last year. Even staying in their junior rooms ('French bed'), you cannot beat this hotel. I've outlined my reasons for staying here repeatedly below:

1. Service: One of the benefits of a small boutique hotel, the service at this hotel, from the housekeepers, to the front desk and waitstaff, the service is outstanding. Every single service member went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, from providing us with Gluten-Free bread at Breakfast to drinks on the terrace and always greeting us with a friendly smile.

2. Location: You simply cannot beat the location of the Residenza. It's a step - literally - from the Vatican, and has some beautiful views. The metro station is about a 5-10 minute walk (on the other side of the Vatican), but taking Taxi's to sites proves cheap and effective (especially if you have more than 3 or so people). The view from the terrace is particularly astounding.

3. The Rooms: Simply Astounding. I have stayed in all of their rooms, from the French Bed rooms to the Junior suite. The junior suite is lovely, with a wonderful view of the Vatican, and the French Beds are clean, with interior windows that face a lovely courtyard. Yes, the rooms are small, but the accommodations are comfortable, unique, and worth the price. I've paid all different prices at the Residenza, the cheapest being 90euro for the french bed, and the most expensive nearly 400 euro a night for the Junior Suite. I have never been disappointed.

I know Rome like the back of my hand - and I can't tell you how wonderful this hotel is. Stay here - you will NOT be disappointed! It's wonderful. I've stayed with my husband, my mother, and friends. I will be back again (next week), and again a month after that. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel.

“Hidden Gem in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We didn't use the hotel, but we did have a private dinner and terrace reception here at the Paolo VI so this review concerns the dinner and reception, not an overnight stay. I'm leaving this review because the terrace at Paolo VI is maybe one of the hidden gems of Rome. It provides a beautiful private view of the Basilica dome and St. Peter's square. We were given private use of the terrace for over an hour. It should be mentioned that the picture of the terrace is a little misleading because the majority of the terrace is blocked off because it is property of the Augustinian monks and we were only given access to that portion for 5-10 minutes to snap some beautiful photos. No big issue there though. The manager, Marina, provided great communication prior to the event, and even let us know when the sunset time was for that evening for optimum picture-taking.

The terrace reception was great with prosecco and a bartender and everything. Then we had dinner in the Bernini room. A four-course meal with their private chef. It began with stuffed artichokes, then we had risotto on a parmesian crust, followed by a very nice beef filet with a special sauce, and finished with a chocolate cake with raspberries.

All of the service staff were amazing, and our evening was near perfect. Thank you Paolo VI.

“Beauty, Serenity, & Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

It's always a pleasure to return to the Residenza! In the busy and large city of Rome, away from the crowds of the Spanish Steps, sits a beautiful boutique hotel, in a former monastary property. Completely renovated, the hotel features all the luxuries of top hotels, without sacrificing the hospitality and charm that one would expect of a hotel bearing the name of Paul VI. The rooms are beautifully maintained, clean, and have great views. The terrace features one of the most beautiful views in the city. Wifi is available in the rooms. The staff is most kind and breakfast is very good. I would not hesitate to reccomend this hotel.

To the managment, I'd like to specifically recognize the kind and helpful assistance of Nicolleta. Grazie Mille!

“The very Best, Perfect Hotel and Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We almost did not go to this hotel from reading other reviews, what a mistake that would have been. We could not fault the service we received from this place. We booked a suite, when we arrived the suite over looked the Vatican perfect view to wake up to. A very warm and welcoming hotel, all of the staff where helpful and there to help the guests. The hotel arranged a transfer from the airport to hotel and back again, a very good service. Breakfast was continental but a very full table with lots to pick from. The roof terrace is small but enough for the number of rooms this hotel has. We visited for our Anniversary and where able to arrange a meal on the one evening, the chef was second to none, rounded off the evening very well. We will recommend this hotel to all. Okay the standard rooms may be smaller than the suite we had, but hey you get what you pay for, and to be honest to be this close to St Peter's is worth any room, and to get such a perfect hotel, staff and location I would compromise on room size if I had to. At sometime we will be back, how could you not visit this beautiful city again.

Room Tip: If you can afford it its worth having a suite.
