“Unfriendly and unwelcoming”

This hotel was part of a tour package so we didn't have a say in this. Our first impression with the staff was when the taxi driver (who was trying to rip us off) started complaining about us to the reception staff in Italian when we were next to him. The receptionist was unsympathetic and also contributed to the conversation in Italian.
Nothing improved when we went to our room which stunk of cigarettes. The receptionist insisted that this was a non-smoking establishment.
The breakfast is also terrible with croissants being the only edible thing.
While we had to stay there multiple times due to the tour package, they always insist on taking our room key every time you leave the hotel, even if you say you're going round the corner to get a coffee. They insist! Which gave them the name 'Hotel Gestapo' while we were staying there.
I also had a friend who needed to crash for a couple of hours in the afternoon while she waited for a flight. For her to be allowed into the hotel, the insisted on keeping her passport and were really really rude about it.
The location isn't great either as only one bus goes to the city and the train station is ages away. Not too many food choices too but there is a supermarket 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: make sure you check that your room doesn't reek of smoke before you accept it. If it does, pray...

“Bring earplugs if you want to stay there”

We just come back from Santa Constanza hotel,

Reception: They do not speak english. There was a strike in rome and we were trying to get information in order to go to the airport, nobody could give us an answer, They never smile, they do not will to help you.

Room: Clean, good bed, good bathroom,

Breakfast:It was fine, there was coffe, break, sweets, etc.

Distance from the center: Its a little far because you need to walk 10 minutes to bologna station and after that to take the metro. This can be good and bad, depending what you want.

Its a cheap hotel with lack of things that more expensive hotels have. You can leave with this, me, personally all these things that I mentioned before didnt affect me , because I just needed a cheap hotel to sleep after being all day in the center of rome. What destroyed everything were THE HORRIBLE WALLS IN THE HOTEL. The walls are not concrete, are something like a very slim wood so, if your neighbor speaks just a little, you hear it like if he is doing it in your ears. My and my husband, we suffered very much on this because we arrive always very tired after walking all day and we couldnt sleep because our neighboor was watching tv until late, and he is right because he didnt have it that high, but because of the walls are so bad, it was simply a nightmare.

“good cheap hotel but location not the best”

i stayed in the hotel in november for 4 nights with a friend. firstly the hotel staff were very helpful prior to departure we contacted them to book taxis and they arriged a pickup service for 50 euro from airport ... (had to pay 5 euro extra because flight was dlelayed). on arrival at hotel we were given key to room 304... the room is very very small but clean and had a lovely bathroom. it did not bother us cos we were only there to sleep. the hotel is situated beside main road vis nomantana. this is where you could get transport into the centre. because we were 2 girls on our own we did not want to venture near termini so always waited for the 60 express bus. this took us as far as the palace/colleseaum and then we could venture rome from there. the only downfall of hotel was its location, alothough only a 10-15 min walk to metro station and beside bus stops still took a good time to get into city and we disnt feel like you could go back to hotel during day for rests etc cos so far out. on 2nd evening we booked a taxi to the city centre piazza navona. hotel ordered this but we were told that taxis put their metres on when phoned. It arrived at hotel with 9euro on metre and cos 20 euro but taxi man took 25 euro!!! on return taxi was only 11-12 euro each night!! we got buses rest of stay to go out at night. hotel staff were lovely, and brekfast was adequate to start off your day, coffee was cold in morning but ifr you said to the waiter he would bring you anything you wanted, i think the machine was broken as it was replaced on last day of stay. night porter was not very friendly but rest off staff were lovely and would help you out with directions, advice of where to go out at night etc! only thing i would reccomend is not to buy from bar, it was 10 euro for 2 small tins of beer that you could get in mni bar for same price. night porter also refused to give us a glass of water when we arrived on first night, we had been delayed for hours and did not arrive to after 1am. he told us we'd have to buy it from mini bar costing 3 euro. overall though the hotel was basic, cleaned every day with fresh towels and we literally spent 5 hours a night in bed sleeping and were out after brekfast each morning. upon checking out we were charged city tax for the room per night, we booked the hotel through loe cost holidays and were unaware of this. though there was a sign at reception saying this must be paid upon checkout.

Room Tip: some rooms are very big and others like a closet. try not to get a corner room. we did not complai...

“Perfectly adequate hotel for such a reasonable price!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Myself and my partner stayed at the Hotel Santa Costanza for 4 nights in June and had a wonderful time; I would start my review with saying that I would definitely recommend this hotel, it was excellent value for money and provided us with every thing that we needed which was a comfortable bed, clean bathroom and an adequate breakfast. We didn't need luxury for our stay in Rome as we were out of the room for the entire day and only came back to sleep, bathe and eat!

The location of the hotel was also pretty good, it's a 10 minute walk to get to the nearest metro although they do appear to be building one that is much closer than that (not sure when that will be finished though!) it's then very easy to get into central Rome on the metro as there is only two lines (A and B).

The service was acceptable, every one we encountered spoke English and was well mannered although they weren't overly friendly however, this really didn't concern us. As for the breakfast, it was acceptable, I would have preferred more of a variety e.g. toast, fresh fruit, muffins, a cooked breakfast would also have been lovely but I completely understand that for the price and being in Italy a continental breakfast is pretty standard!

Positives: Excellent value for money, Good location, Good air conditioning, Nice balcony, Perfectly comfortable and acceptable bed, TV.

Negatives: Shower in our particular room was difficult to use as it seemed to cascade over your head and I constantly felt like I was drowning and this in turn made the floor become soaking wet which we had to mop up with our towels, Could have had a slightly better breakfast selection, Staff could have been friendlier, There also could have been more pillows in the room as the ones provided were very flat and I definitely needed another one.

I would end my review by saying that if you are looking to go to Rome and have a fantastic time sight seeing, eating at wonderful restaurants and soaking up the Italian culture on a budget then this is the hotel for you whereas if you are looking for a little bit of luxury and don't have to watch the pennies then go for a better hotel in the centre of Rome.
