Like others, I've re-read the reviews having now stayed at the Mayfair residence. I would agree with many that the decor is outdated, I agree that it is hard to find as the sign on the front wall is small.
The rooms were quite large and we slept well in the King size bed. The sofa was very uncomfortable to sit on, let alone sleep on. Thank goodness, this was not necessary.
There was a kitchenette, but we did not use it at all, as it seemed inadequate, and we thought why not eat in Rome at local restaurants as the food is SO GOOD? As other people have said the room was spotless and serviced daily.
The front desk staff were personable and very helpful. They tried to solve a problem with heat in the room ( 28 degrees C in late October ), but it did not work. What I discovered upon leaving the last day was that a thermostat was hidden behind a curtain, and it was set high. No wonder we were so hot! Strange that the staff did not know about that thermostat.
We enjoyed our breakfast particularly because it was not expected by us, although the coffee was not as good as we became used to in cafes on the street. I agree that it was a very pleasant and welcoming to start the day.
Wifi was free but only available in the foyer area. This was awkward one night when someone came in from the street and started to open the windows, and when asked not to open the windows, I was told that I was a "stupid idiot". Fortunately, I never saw this individual again.
The hotel is within walking distance to many attractions ( if one is in good shape ). We figure that we walked about 15 km every day - including the Vatican and the older part of town by the Colloseum.
