On the plus side:Palazzo al Velabro is in a good location for seeing most of the sights of Rome, though a few are quite a hike. We found the breakfast to be quite good, decent choices. The staff is accommodating and very friendly. Most rooms have been updated. The suites are spacious but the hotel is starkly modern, so if you're looking for cozy, forget it.
In the minus column: The kitchen/sitting area of our suite had a distinctly smoky smell, had to keep the a/c running full blast to keep the air circulating. The amenities are lacking, no tissues, "bath" towels are oversized hand towels and we had to ask for more as there were only 2. The shower curtain in the half-width tub is fabric,we had wet floor with every shower. The mattress seems to be a bottom-of-the-line basic spring mattress, quite uncomfortable. There is no WiFi, you can use the computer in the lobby area but you pay by the minute and need your own source such as a laptop or smart phone.

My husband & I stayed here with our adult daughter for the last 7 days of a month long Europe trip and were delighted with everything about this hotel. The staff were so helpful and gave us lots of useful advice and the location was outstanding close to many important Roman ruins and sights. Our apartment which consisted of 2 connecting suites on the 4th floor was very spacious and light with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, lounge room, dining area and entrance hall. It was clean, modern and very comfortable and great value for money considering what we had paid for accomodation in other European destinations. We will certainly be returning.

Overall the hotel is quite good for travelling with children. We chose this hotel because we wanted our baby to sleep in a separate room as well as we wanted a place to stay that will have a kitchenette. The room was freshly refurbished, the location is good. However the problem is with the basic items. We had to ask for a kettle, kitchen and bathroom towels, soap etc. It wasn't obvious to the staff that family of 3 might need an extra towel in addition to the 2 bathrobes. The linen wasn't changed even once and we stayed at the hotel for 7! nights. The breakfast is basic but good, however the hotel was usually running out of something e.g. ham, white bread, fruit salad, pastry. It seems strange that they penny pinch considering the price of the rooms.
To summarise we might be back if there won't be a better option available.
