“A Great Choice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2006

Stayed here September 22-25. The room was far bigger than we had expected, very clean, friendly staff and nice breakfast all helped make it a memorable trip. Excellent location, very close to the Trevi Fountains and Barberini Metro station, plus lots of great places to eat.
Not the cheapest place in Rome to stay, but this is five star accomodation masquerading as three star!

“Domus Julia a good choice and a good location”

Domus Julia is a great value and nice little hotel. It’s the apartment annex to the Hotel Julia, so you check in and have breakfast buffet at the hotel, which includes warm boiled eggs, sliced ham, croissants, cereals, yoghurt, capuccino. It is a fine little place, in a great location, at a very reasonable price. We had a double/twin room, which was large enough by European standards (and is pictured on their website quite accurately). It was 170EUR, with a private bath, and including the breakfast buffet. We entered our room via a nice dining room/kitchen common area. There were two other units which shared that space, and I think they are larger apartments and might suit our family of four. They offer a 13EUR shuttle from the airport, which is a big cost-savings.

“Dank and Dreary”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2006

We were booked into this hotel by a travel agent. The location is a 15 minute walk to anything. Hotel staff was any thing but helpful. We had no hot water for the first day. The breakfast consisted of old pastries and juice that was foaming. To enter your rooms, you exit the hotel onto the street and use one of three keys you are given into a long, dark hallway. You then have to unlock another door to get to a suite of rooms and then use another key for your room. Room was noisy, traffic and other guests. Very dark, musty. Beds had the springs coming through. Very unpleasant!

“Too expensive for what it is”

We stayed at the Domus Julia for 4 nights. The positives: the room was very clean, the personnel were mostly helpful, the location is excellent, the breakfast good. Negatives: the air conditioning remote control(necc. for its operation) had been removed and was never found (it wasn't "hot" to the Italians, so they apparently didn't think we should need the a/c); the hair dryer hose was broken (although they fixed it finally); the phone didn't work (it was fixed after the 2nd complaint, but not before we had waited 2 hours for a phone call that never came). The amount/quality of service depended totally on who was at the desk. At $200/night everything should have worked. Next time I will look for a hotel in the Trastevere district, which is in a charming and cheaper district, withing easy walking distance of all the major sites.

“Location, location, location”

In October 2005 we stayed in Room 11 at Domus Julia , which is adjacent to Hotel Julia, where the front desk, little bar, and breakfast room are located. The room was spacious, clean, well furnished, air conditioned and comfortable. The street below was noisy but with the window closed at night it was not a problem. The bathroom was also spacious. Our only complaint was that the shower head in the tub/shower was located on the back wall not an end wall (uncomfortable and hard to use) and there was some unpleasant mildew around the tub. There was an elevator, although it was an easy climb up the stairs, and we are in our early 70's. The room looked exactly like the photo in the brochure. There was also a safe located in the armoire, and a little frig.

The location on Via Rasella was perfect in every way for our 4 nite stay ( 150 Euros per nite) which included a lovely, abundant breakfast with cereal, pastries, soft boiled eggs, rolls, cold cuts, cheese, fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

We walked everywhere, Trevi Fountain just a few blocks away, Spanish Steps too. Even shorter to the Metro stop, Hop On/Hop Off Tour Bus stop, wonderful restaurants far too numerous to mention in every direction, all within walking distance. Via Veneto, Piazza Barberini all close by as well. Taxis were never more than 10 Euros one way for the sights located a bit out of our walking reach, like the Vatican, Piazza Navonna, Campo di Fiore and the Pantheon etc.

We found that ordering the set/fixed menu for the day was the least expensive way to go, and the food was always delicious, especially the pastas without exception. We were usually confused about whether the bread and service charge was included or not......
Gelato shops seemed to be on every corner, a temptation we found difficult to resist.....

Rosa and the staff at the Hotel are extremely helpful, she answered my every little question before arrival, and during our stay as well. She arranged for transfer from our cruise ship and to the airport with a very good driver with a station wagon to accomodate our huge luggage.

The hotel also offers free internet use, which made staying in touch with our family so easy and reassuring.

We are recommending this quaint hotel and its fabulous location to all our friends and would definitely stay there again.

Thank you Rosa and staff !
