“Avoid this hostel please!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

Poorly signposted leading me to walk straight past it!! Very annoying trek up a million steps to reach the hostel itself. The hostel owner was quite rude and was very insistent on being paid as soon as I arrived. Breakfast wasn't included and there were no facilities for self catering or a common area for meeting fellow travellers. The hostel owner was very sharp with male travellers but worryingly overfriendly with female travellers on the verge of becoming quite sleazy. If you want to stay in a friendly atmosphere and have the opportunity to meet fellow travellers, then this hostel is definitely NOT for you!! The price is definitely not worth it either.

“Avoid this place”

Ew. Really. The place was filthy, unorganised, and it smelled. The staff doesn't make it any better, it seems clueless and treat you rudely. The bunkbeds are very close together. I got the top bed and felt I was almost sleeping with this other guy next to me... very weird.
The place may have changed because I stayed there on 2003, but still, beware.

“Would not recommend to anyone, event to people I dislike...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

The place is never cleaned properly and falling apart. The rooms have an awful stench, beds are pitiful, lockers are appalling. My second night and last night thankfully, I went to hope into bed and found and old pillow and some window cleaner tucked under my sheets.

Bathrooms are atrocious, often left without toilet paper, also you're asked to mop them after use? The rate is quite cheap, but you can do better for your money. We paid 25 euro a night each and we booked in advance! Perhaps back when this Hostel was better run although now its gone to shambles. Elevator has to be activated by a key, then costs 10 cents. One thing it does have though, is a great location, it's not worth it, book elsewhere.

I've seen a few bad Hostels in my time, but this one surely takes the cake.

“Would never go back.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

Ok, so unlike the other reviewers I went during the hot season to Italy and this hostel has no air conditioning so I sweated like I never have before. This hostel is located on the 8th floor (I lost count after the sixth flight of stairs though) so you are carrying your luggage up a million stairs and sweating your balls off. Then you get to the hottest part of the building which is the hostel and its even more boiling up there.

I had to take multiple showers in the evening, middle of the night and in the early morning to cool down my body and to get any kind of sleep!!!! I slept terribly and not at all sometimes.

The cleanliness is well below standard. They clean nowhere near enough for the amount of guests that they have at the hostel. There was little toilet paper, the showers were blocked so the water didn't drain properly and had hair in all over the place. Our shower didn't even have a shower door so after your shower you would get water all over your feet and all over the floor in your room-eww. Furthermore the bathroom was tiny so you were smacking yourself against the wall and shower and door all the time while drying off. It was soooo annoying.

Also there is one computer for the whole hostel and the Internet connection is sooooo slow and the room is sooooo hot. No window or anything!!!! I think they keep it so hot so that no one is tempted to stay on the computer for too long!! I know it stopped me from using it. Also the connection is soooo slow. Meaning that the words you type don't actually appear on the screen until like four seconds later. I used the Internet for the bare minimum in terms of emails and got out of there as soon as possible.

The ONLY redeeming factor was that the staff were friendly. They were helpful and advised us of how to get around town. Also the hostel is in a good location, close to the metro and to the main Rome train station, however once you get to the hostel, remember 8 flights of stairs!

I'm so glad we only stayed there for 2 nights!!

“Wouldn't come back here.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2009

The thing that killed this hostel for us was that there was no heating, and this was in winter (early January!). They gave us thick blankets to help, but it's not a lot of fun freezing in your room. The bathroom was only ok; not the cleanest but tolerable. The hostel's also right at the top of the building, and the lift requires two 5 cent coins to work, and you don't really get 5 cent coins on your person often. The only internet access available was from the really really old computer at reception, and even then only at a certain time of the night.
I suppose the main redeeming factor is the proximity to the train station and the Pantheon. The staff were pretty nice too.
