“Wow! Convenience and Comfort!!!”

I recently taught a course in Rome and I stayed with a number of students at the Hotel Mimosa. It doesn't claim to be a luxury hotel. It's completely unpretentious, but it is also quite comfortable and extremely well located! It's a family owned hotel and there's a wonderful personal touch in the way they relate to guests. The staff were extremely nice, very accommodating and helpful! We had a wonderful time and would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to stay in the heart of Rome's historic center!

“Nasty Concierge, Nasty Bathrooms, Great Location”

We stayed here for the location and price, for sure, but here's my problem: My friend and I had just finished a 6 week tour of Europe. For the most part, throughout the trip, were were staying in meager accommodations, as we were on a tight budget. From personal experience, I don't expect a communal bathroom to be the cleanest bathroom, but water flooding every time we showered because of rat sized clumps of hair coming up out of the drain was enough to make you want to throw up while showering. I was sick and wanted tea one day, I had the tea, I just needed hot water, and they refused to let me have hot water from their FULL kitchen. They were the rudest most unhelpful concierges I have ever come across. I understand skimping on amenities to lower the price of a hotel, but you never have to skimp on just being a decent person. I am torn because the location is so incredible, if you don't have a lot of time in Rome, are very low maintenance and don't mind being treated badly, Hotel Mimosa would be ideal if sightseeing is your main priority.

“Very basic but good value and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

One of the rare hotels in Europe to offer free wi-fi! Rooms are rather basic but there's a bathroom attached, which is quite functional, and the window looks out onto a (mostly) quiet street behind the Pantheon. The location could not be better! Staff were very friendly. A relatively good deal at about 80 Euro per night.

“ONLY for the location, but what a location”

It's almost unfair to rate the Hotel Mimosa because it does a lot of things right...it's in an AMAZING location steps from the Pantheon, it is clean, and the best deal in the neighborhood. We spent a week in Umbria and a week in Florence and stayed only for one night as we were flying out of Rome. I don't think I would have stayed more than a night or two anyway because the "family" room we had was too basic, three beds pushed together on one side and one cot on the other side was too dorm/hostel in which case one would look for a hostel, which I suspect would be cheaper than $155 Euro.

Under the same circumstances; short stay, wanting to be centrally located, I would do it again, but any longer than a night or two, for the same price or less, I would rent two rooms in a pensione, where the personal charms of the rooms are usually greater, the service more personal and you might get a little more of a regular neighborhood feel.

BUT, while still not a rave, the Hotel Mimosa, was clean, and central and I would give it a "conditional" thumbs up for budget travelers with basic expectations.

“No, no, no - never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

My husband & I - along with our two young daughters - stayed in the quad/family room for two nights in May 2010. We picked it for the ideal location & because it offered the least expensive rates we could find. Our original impressions were good enough - the room & bathroom were a good size, and everything was clean & tidy. The receptionist (while not overly friendly or chatty) did take our bags to the room.

Unfortunately, the good stops there...the room opened up to the (very loud) traffic of the street below. And when the air conditioning didn't work (and the reception staff offered no assistance or alternative) we had no choice but to open the windows because it was so warm & stuffy our baby couldn't sleep. The breakfast consisted of four different types of prepackaged breads and some watered-down juice. Although by this point we were familiar with the typical breakfast found in Italy, this was by far the worst we'd encountered.

The final straw, though, was when my husband went to pay the bill. It was 7am and he had to wake the receptionist, who didn't so much as grunt (let along make eye contact or thank us) when my husband paid well over €200 for our worst hotel experience ever.

I would definitely not recommend this place - pay a bit more and get somewhere worth your money.
