“Showers Orange From Mildew”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

I stayed here for a week with a school trip. We had many rooms and all of the showers had orange mildew in them. I went to the local grocery store and bought shower cleaner and cleaned the common shower in the single bathroom myself because it was disgusting. The rooms themselves were very nice, although some people in my group complained that the restaurant below on the street was loud some nights. The floors had not been swept in a while as there were dust bunnies all over. I didn't look too hard for fear of what I would find. Thank goodness I remembered to bring flip flops with me!
The wifi was so-so. Often it didn't work at all and you could only access it from the reception area. Breakfast was simple, pre-packaged croissants and bread. Nothing fancy but enough to fill you up. We had to ask for fresh fruit and after a few days they had some oranges and apples. I'd suggest going to the local supermarket on Corso I think it was and buy some fruit for yourself (pick your fruit, remember the bin number, put it on the scale and click the bin number for it to print out a price label).
Location was wicked, we spend every night in front of the Pantheon and we walked everywhere (including the Colosseum and Forum), so I would suggest finding somewhere in the same area.
I don't know how much the hotel costs or others cost in the area. We had it all included in our course fees. Not based on price, I would say its fine if you don't mind moldy, mildew-filled showers. And I mean FILLED. You could draw pictures on the wall in mildew if you want. Bring shower shoes.
My room was room 9. Same hall as the shared bathroom, but had a nice sink in the room and a nice wardrobe.
Desk staff were quiet. Didn't speak much. I didn't try to stike up conversation.
PS. They list a deal saying 45Euros for 2 people to the airport. Any taxi from the Pantheon area is E40. Don't have the hotel book. We saw another guest get ripped off by the hotel who took his E45 and then the taxi wanted his E40. Just walk to the Pantheon the day before you want to leave at about that time. Arrange with the driver to pick you up at the Mimosa hotel at this time tomorrow. Taxi's can't wait on the street so be ready for them.

Room Tip: I had room 9.

“Rome's Best Kept secret among places to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2011

I have stayed at Hotel Mimosa in Rome on 4 or 5 occasions, and have never been disappointed. The location (near the Pantheon) is superb, the prices are very reasonable, and the staff always welcoming and helpful. HM is a no frills place--some rooms have shared baths, the continental breakfast is basic, only one computer for internet, no tv. But it is well maintained and clean. If you are looking for inexpensive, basic housing while in Rome, I cannot recommend Hotel Mimosa highly enough.

“Location, location, location”

Let's face it: you're not going to find anyplace under 100€ so close to everything. That said, we had problems with room B, such as insects and what seemed a whole wig stuck in the bathtub drain. Point to the staff, they promptly gave us another room when we complained.
There's nothing much to be said about the place: it's a basic hotel without any luxuries. The only reason they are worth the price is, undoubtedly, the location. If you want to do most of Rome by foot, you can't do better in this price range.

“Wow! Convenience and Comfort!!!”

I recently taught a course in Rome and I stayed with a number of students at the Hotel Mimosa. It doesn't claim to be a luxury hotel. It's completely unpretentious, but it is also quite comfortable and extremely well located! It's a family owned hotel and there's a wonderful personal touch in the way they relate to guests. The staff were extremely nice, very accommodating and helpful! We had a wonderful time and would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to stay in the heart of Rome's historic center!

“Nasty Concierge, Nasty Bathrooms, Great Location”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

We stayed here for the location and price, for sure, but here's my problem: My friend and I had just finished a 6 week tour of Europe. For the most part, throughout the trip, were were staying in meager accommodations, as we were on a tight budget. From personal experience, I don't expect a communal bathroom to be the cleanest bathroom, but water flooding every time we showered because of rat sized clumps of hair coming up out of the drain was enough to make you want to throw up while showering. I was sick and wanted tea one day, I had the tea, I just needed hot water, and they refused to let me have hot water from their FULL kitchen. They were the rudest most unhelpful concierges I have ever come across. I understand skimping on amenities to lower the price of a hotel, but you never have to skimp on just being a decent person. I am torn because the location is so incredible, if you don't have a lot of time in Rome, are very low maintenance and don't mind being treated badly, Hotel Mimosa would be ideal if sightseeing is your main priority.
