Due to reviews online we tried this Hotel Fontanella Borghese. Its a quaint hotel with an old lift to the 2nd flr. About 20 steps up to our room, but that was fine. Room overlooked courtyard & oh so quiet. Secure gate closed at night. Wireless 5 euros per day & TV shows in Italian. Wow, what a great location; we walked to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, shopping, Navona square, Pantheon even though I have difficulty walking far. Hotel arranged Appian Way Tours to take us to Ostia Antica which was wonderful & affordable. Room was clean; only negative was drain clog lst 2 nights. Hotel staff very helpful & loved the coffee and breakfast which consisted of boiled eggs, pastries, juices, water, fruits. Quite expensive room rate though. Thanks to Tripadvisor for the heads' up!

Italian charm, located away from major tourism yet still 5-10 min. walk away from the Piazza di Spanga. Not much for views but you could hear accordians playing nightly outside the shuttered windows. "Khaled" a staff member at the front desk was especially helpful and kind with making our stay at Fontanella a pleasant one.

As other reviewers have said the Fontanella Borghese is in a great location but is showing signs of age. Bathroom was tired as was the furniture and bed covering. Owner was friendly if not a bit "pushy" and the breakfast was adequate. Would not rate this as highly as others have rated it and would not return.

In a city as large as Rome, location should be a PRIORITY. Hotel Fontanella Borghese is PERFECTLY located in the heart of Rome. We were able to walk to all locations (bring comfy shoes!); nothing was more than a couple miles away. The hotel itself is not glamorous; but more than sufficient. Rooms are small, but have a minifridge and queen-sized bed (double supreme). The bathrooms are clean and have a hairdryer. There is air conditioning, but it’s weak. The staff is incredibly sweet; the front desk personnel always knew our name and the breakfast staff was always accommodating. Breakfast was also sufficient; fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, croissants (if you get there early, you can snag a chocolate croissant!) and made-to-order coffee. One important note – the nights were not the quietest. Birds (yes birds) in the neighborhood were incredibly loud…but that’s not the hotel’s fault.
