“Simply the best place for a turist in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Absolutly helpful, 100% fluent in english receptionists, willing to draw you on map which you get there any place you wanna go, with bus stops and metro.
Very comfortable rooms, great clean bathrooms, with AC working very pleasantly all the time.
Location is just unreplaceable. Absolutely everywhere a turist would wish to go, you can go on foot. Walking distance from Piazza Spaanga, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia...
Except location the best thing is probably the breakfast, with more then 3 versions of croasans etc., with ability to order by room service, free of charge.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

This was the third time that we stayed at the Fontanella Borghese. The hotel has a great central location and is within walking distance of most tourist sites. Reasonably priced considering the location.
However the downside is that there is a small slow elevator and the rooms arer small. The rooms are old and not luxiurious but considering the price they are a good value.

“convenient location”

We stayed at this hotel upon arriving in Rome. The entry way into the hotel looked nicer than the interior of the rooms. The hotel might also be a little tricky to find since it is inside a gated courtyard (sometimes it's open) on the second floor. There is a miniature elevator for you to send your luggage up in but won't fit much beyond that.

The rooms were a little bare and tired looking. We were a little disappointing by the quality and size of the room for the price.

The location was the best thing about this hotel, as it was very conveniently located near the spanish steps and shopping area.

The service of the front desk was generally pretty unfriendly. The young lady that was there when the second half of our group arrived was extremely rude and gave us a lot of attitude when we forgot to leave our passport at the front desk for about an hour. The man who was at the reception later in the evening was also very rude. We had a couple questions about getting around the city and he answered rather begrudgingly with a lot of sighing and silent staring.

The woman who prepared fresh coffee and breakfast in the morning was very nice, as was the owner, whom we met on the last day while checking out.

“Horrific experience...future guests beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

This hotel was filthy and the ac did not work. We checked-in, went to the room and immediately checked out. The gentleman at the front desk would not refund our money and we had to pay for another hotel. He actually was extremely rude and made my daughter and me very uncomfortable. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

“Great Hotel, Even Better Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

My wife and I stayed two nights June 7-8 on our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Rome. The cost was reasonable and the location -- walking distance to Piazza Novella, the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Spanish Steps -- was even better. What sold me on the hotel was a recommendation in Frommers that said the front desk was one of the most helpful in Rome. We certainly found that to be the case. The night manager, Khaled, was particularly helpful. He would hand draw detailed maps for us, giving us recommendations on places to see, restaurants, etc. Before we got to Rome I must've sent a dozen emails, asking questions about the best tour of the Vatican, the Colosseum and more. The Hotel responded quickly and gave us great ideas. The hotel itself is in an old Borghese family villa and has beautiful marble and wood parquet floors, very nice furnishings, updated bathrooms and an eye-catching steel and glass spiral staircase leading up to the room floors. I believe the hotel was a 2-3 star (because they don't occupy all the floors of the buidling) but I'd call it closer to a four store. The breakfast was quite nice and again served in a beautifully appointed salon. There is free wifi and a quaint courtyard outside the hotel that shields it from a lot of street noise. I cannot emphasize enough the great location -- you could even walk to the Vatican (probably 20 min) if you like. If you're staying in Rome, I'd highly recommend this hotel. I use Travel Advisor all the time and travel frequently, I have written many a review about horrible hotels. This one is one the opposite end of the scale. The last day we met the owner and her son who spent a fair amount of time talking with us to ensure our stay had been satisfactory. They have a nice website: www.fontanellaborghese.com
