“Fantastic location, very central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

The guest house was in a great location by Piazza Cavour, all the main sites were within easy walking distance and there is a bus stop around the corner to the airport.
The room was a good size and very clean with lovely cotton sheets on the bed and a really comfortable mattress. The fridge in the room had a couple of bottles of water and cans of soft drinks, we had one of these and they didn't charge us.
The bathroom was a good size but the bath was awful, the enamel had come off in many places and they'd tried to paint over some of it. The shower over the bath was fine but I wouldn't have taken a bath.
Our room overlooked the courtyard and so was very quiet, we didn't have the breakfast as the breakfast room was tiny and packed with people, it felt very claustrophobic. Instead we went to a cafe over the road and had coffee and pastries.
There are some great restaurants in the area, the best of these was Taki - a Japanese restaurant, we went on our first night and it was so good that we went back for lunch on our last day.
Overall a great budget hotel which we would use again.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet ask for a room overlooking the internal courtyard.

“Wouldn't Come Back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

The guest house is in a great location - very handy for the Vatican and just off Piazza Cavour which is a main bus terminus for all the sights but therein lies the problem. If you have a room overlooking the main street, it is very nosiy from 6am onwards. The bottle banks are emptied at midnight. Rooms overlooking the courtyard are quieter.

Our bathroom had the worst shower ever, loo seat kept coming off and overall, bathroom wasn't very clean. I spilt cream om the tiles at the beginning of our week and it was never cleaned off. The lamp in the bedroom was hanging by a thread and the TV never worked for more than 5 minutes before cutting out. Although we complained about all of this on a daily basis, nothing was ever done.

Their new breakfast room is a joke. One 2 slot toaster for 24 people and a kettle which takes ages to boil. Tables are far too high to sit at. You are obvioulsy not meant to linger here as it can get very crowded with people queing for their breakfast items.

Loved Rome but we won't be coming back to Marta's Guest House.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard

“Home Away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

The staff was so friendly I felt like I was part of a family. They made my trips to Rome nicer. I stayed there in April 09 and July 11 and I will probably pass by there again. The rooms are very clean and all services are exactly what is needed. The location is so great everything is a walking distance away. The area is very safe at all times and serviced (theres a bus stop in case some needed to take the bus), the airport bus stops at the Piazza where the Guest House is, there is a supermarket in the building infront.
