“A B&B in name...but a hotel in nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2009

Gianpaolo who met us at the "flat" is a very pleasant guy. English is good so all udnertsanding was there. We had the double room with access to the balcony and the view is lovely...with the roofs of various churches to be seen in the distance. The apartment is on the 8th floor overlooking a main road, so can be quite noisy, which may stop you opening the baclcony doors during the eve/night, when the room gets rather warm, even though the heating is off. The room was large and had everything we needed, though there was no "turn-down" by any maid for our 4 day stay there. So you have to use the same towels and linen for your duration. ( OK>>>I am a snob!!) Gianpaolo is a very pleasant guy and helpful. The dog was cute...but barked now and then. a great stay at good prices. the lift is VERY small. so dont take huge cases...and dont be fat!!!!! I would go back there again...so that says it all.

“Everything you need for your stay in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2009

This was an ideal place to stay if you don't want to pay lots of money. It was in a good location just 4 -10 metro stops from all attractions (no more than 10 mins ever spent on metro) metro just round the corner from apartment block. In a busy residential area, busy road outside did not bother us but if you are a very light sleeper you might want some ear plugs. Owner really friendly and will tell you all the places to eat etc. Really clean and nicely done inside (simple but nice). Really pleased we booked here, we normally play it safe and stay in a hotel in the centre, but Rome really expensive so we took a gamble and really pleased we did, was great and all we needed for a comfortable stay in beautiful Rome.

“Wonderful stay in this quiet freindly hotel with stunning views and great location”

Our first contact with the Tetti di Roma was via Gianpaolo the proprietor ; we booked from the UK via last minute.com, Gianpaolo immediately sent a very friendly welcome email with contact and arrival information and even offered to have us picked us up at the airport.
He also helped with excursion advice before we set out from the UK and then met us at the hotel on arrival- throughout the 3 day stay nothing was too much trouble for him.

We had a really nice room, clean spacious and although the bathroon was apparently shared, we never saw anyone else using it - it too was spotlessly clean and spacious.

The high point of the room was definitely the stunning panoramic view of the Rome skyline from the large window down one side of the room, not something you get with even with high end expensive hotels.

The location of Tetti di Roma is in a quiet mainly residential area and it could not have been better placed to explore the historical sites of Rome. We tended to walk everywhere and the distances were very managable even in the August heat ; Colosseum 15 mins for example.

Lastly, this hotel was great value for money, we stayed on a room only basis but there are plenty of places to eat locally which we preferred anyway.
Highly recommended, would stay here again.

“Great BB for the price!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2008

If you're looking for a great steal, this is it! It's so close to the trains station. The ownder was very helpful in where we should go and also in suggesting restaurants. We had an amazing time here. It's in a great neighborhood and friendly environment. You can't beat the price!!

“Like staying with friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2008

As other reviewers have said, I Tetti di Roma is nothing fancy, but to me that was one of its selling points. We were looking to stay in a residential neighborhood near central Rome, not a loud touristy area, and this fit the bill perfectly.

My partner and I stayed there for three nights and used it as a base. As others said, you don't go to Rome to sit in a room all day. Our room was clean and bright, with a comfortable bed, a television, and a shared balcony (decorated with beautiful bougainvillea) with a nice view of southwestern Rome, particularly San Giovanni in Laterano. We arranged with the owner, Gianpaolo, to be picked up at the airport by his friend Dario, who patiently waited for us for over an hour while the airline dragged its feet getting our bags off the plane. The fare was the same as taking a taxi would be, but far more enjoyable since Dario is friendly, charming, and loves practicing his English. He recommended places for us to have pizza, gelato, and suppli (rice balls), and he did not disappoint.

The B&B is two blocks from Re di Roma Metro stop on the A line and you can be at Termini in about 10 minutes and Piazza di Spagna in 15. The only drawback is that construction is under way indefinitely on the A line at night and trains stop running at about 10 pm. But on a nice night the walk from central Rome to the B&B takes only about half an hour, and you can always take a taxi. There is a supermarket between the Metro and the B&B, as well as several local bars and cafes around Piazza Re di Roma.

The bathroom is shared but not a problem. It's very clean and the shower is great. You may find the elevator tricky. It's very tiny--not unusual in European buildings--so if you have a lot of luggage it may be slow going. We found it amusing. Your alternative is to walk up 8 flights of stairs, so in this case patience is a good quality to have. You may hear noise from the street, but we sleep with earplugs so it was not an issue.

Two other things that might be of interest to travelers. One is that Gianpaolo gives each guest daily vouchers for a typical Roman breakfast of cornetto and coffee at the local cafe. The cafe is closed on Sundays, so you're on your own, but Gianpaolo will reimburse you for not being able to use the voucher. Since breakfast costs a few meager euro, unless you're on a really tight budget it seems kind of petty to bother. The other thing is that you have to pay the bill in cash, but we knew this ahead of time.

I Tetti di Roma to us was a great aperitivo to the city. We would definitely stay there again.
