“Self Serve B & B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2007

My husband and I finished up our honeymoon in Rome. Choose the Tourist House because of the location to the ancient center.
The location is PERFECT- we walked to Colesseum,Trevi Fountain, Spanish Stairs, Pantheon... all the way to the Vatican!
So we really only went back to the B & B, to shower and sleep. It is a bit difficult to find- no signs, a lift is availalbe to get to the fifth floor. We were greeted and given 2 keys one for the front of the building and one for our room. It felt like a hostel or college dorm. Our room was clean, our bathroom small with some water problems and the breakfast was left on a little table for you to fetch yourself. When we arrived we were both unsure if it was safe- we have travelled and never experienced anything as no frills.
It did serve it purpose for sleeping accomodations, but not worth the money we paid for it.

“Very disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2007

We just wanted to tell you about you about our stay at the Tourist House. Although it's location was pretty good, the "House" lacked so much I don't know where to begin. You should note that if you dont have a taxi or a car taking you there it can be very hard to find because there are no signs outside. The only thing that identifies the House is a small business card pasted to the call button next to the door. Our problems began when we went up to the House. Our room was not ready for us, and we had told them at what time we would be arriving. Manager was no where to be found. In fact the whole stay there we only saw him 1 time for about 5 minutes.
Once we got to the room we were disappointed to find that they were not well kept. The carpet was old and very dirty. Furniture was old, and looked very used. The bathroom in room 1 where we stayed was extremely small. The biggest joke was the shower. It was so small you could hardly fit in it. The calking was all black with mold, the celing was completly covered in mold. The doors to the shower were broken, we had to fight to get them to close, and water leaked out everytime we showered.
The air conditioner worked fairly well and windows worked great to shut our the noise.
The breakfast is just what the reviews say above. Packaged crossants, with a grody looking coffee machine and mugs for coffee. The juices in the fridge are supose to be for guests but on several occasion I saw the 2 workers help themselves to Juice and water. our overall experience in Rome was great, it just sucked coming back to a grody room at the end of everyday.

“good budget B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2007

I wanted to write a more up to date review of this B&B as the others are all pretty bad.

We stayed here for one night as our original B&B (B&B suburbe roma) had double booked us. We were dropped off in a taxi outside the buidling so we found it ok, but i can see that it might be hard to find on your own. There was limited signage to the B&B once in the apartment lobby but we worked out it was on the 5th floor quick enough and despite not speaking any italian. The lift was small but worked fine. We found the host to be very friendly, he showed us around the room and pointed out the facilities (fridge with free drinks in lobby area, free internet access, fridge in your room).

The room was clean and comfortable, although the bathroom was very small. I fitted in the shower ok (and i am quite a big girl) and the air-con worked perfectly although it did drain into the shower which seemed a bit unhygenic. The double glazing was great it really sound proofed our room. we didn't try breakfast but it looked ok if basic.

we enjoyed our one night here and i have recommended it to my mom, so it must be ok!

we thought it was a good budget B&B in an excellent location

“Terrible Place to Stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2006

I couldn't agree more with the first review, "Book here if you like cold showers."

We reserved two rooms about a month prior to visiting Rome for vacation. Traveling in group of 8 (4 adults and 4 children).

When we dialed the number, we got an english speaking person who was great to work with. He answered questions and arranged airport shuttle to pick us up at the airport. Upon our arrival to the Tourist House, there wasn't any sign on the building etc...just a small business card next to the 'bell buttons'... --> Good luck finding this place in the dark without guidence.

Once we figured out the lift and got to the floor we were greeted by an individual (described in the first review) who did not speak English -- he attempted to be very helpful...but really couldn't verbally answer any of our questions...

The rooms were very, very, very, very small and 'gross'... The ceilings had black stuff growing on them... The beds were extremely uncomfortable and the windows were not sound proof. The rooms did have A/C; however, they drained directly into the shower. My daughter walked from one room to another {almost across the hall}--the bottom of her feet were completely black...

The bathrooms were very, very small and described to detail in the first review. The shower was so small you could not move around to wash yourself without hitting the shower doors (too small for my 9 year old more less an adult). Speaking of shower doors, they were cheap plastic that were cracked, soap scummed. Water was a mix of hot -- my wife's shower was more cold... One door had about 4-7 inches of scotch tape holding it to the rails; the other kept falling off.... The tank above the tolet leaked... The ceiling had black stuff growing on it too...
Breakfast was described perfectly in the first review.... I have traveled in Europe for 3-years now -- definetely not the 'typical European breakfast'.....

After experiencing a terrible night (we arrived around 12 am and was pretty much committed to staying the first night -- didn't want to be 'homeless' in Rome at midnight with 4 children), we decided to check out... Early the next morning, we found a very nice hotel right next to the Tourist House {Via Cavour 213-M }
for almost the same prices (granted they gave us Space-A price). We approaced the non-speaking English man (who was barefoot) to check out. He called the English Speaking individual who insisted that his rooms were very nice and that since we reserved 3 nights we had to pay for 3 nights--was charged for only 2 nights (remember though, was paying for two different rooms; both rooms, same quality). Lesson for tourists, don't reserve multiple nights in advance if not completely sure you will be satisfied....

“Great value, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2006
3
people found this review helpful

Good location just a couple of blocks from the Forum and Colosseum. The rooms are nothing to write home about, but are excellent for groups looking for value. We travelled as a family (5 people) and stayed in one room with 5 beds, which ran us €160 per night--an incredible value. Meager breakfast in the morning, but that's just a good excuse to find a nice cafe to eat in. Unlike the other reviewer, we had plenty of hot water, enough for all five of us to shower without problems.
