“Great location, clean and comfortable - added bonus wireless internet connection!”

The Tourist House was perfect for my family (myself, husband and our 4 year old)! It was in a great location - just a block or so away from the Colosseum and right behind the building was a mecca of delicious restaurants and eateries. The host & co-owner, Pompeo was extremely nice and helpful. Although the accomodations weren't luxurious, for the price we were pleasantly surprised - the room and private bathroom was clean and comfortable (a little small but we expected that in Rome) and even had a flat screen tv and wireless internet connection. Only being in Rome 3 days, we were not planning to stay in our room much and spent most of our time sightseeing so we did not need hotel type amenities. I read another review about the guest not realizing Tourist House did not have a 24 hour reception but Pompeo made me aware before we arrived what the check in times were and requested the estimated timeframe we would be arriving so he could welcome us. When it was time for us to leave for the airport Pompeo arranged for a car service to pick us up, which they did - right on time. We would stay here again. :)

“Just what we were looking for!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2008

My wife and I were looking for a good, clean, budget hotel close to everything Rome has to offer, and this was exactly what we were looking for!

It was above average as the value of the location [5-10 min walk to the Coliseum and new entrance to Forum, 10-15 min walk to Trajan's Column and Capitoline hill, 15-20 min walk to the downtown core: Pantheon, etc.] and the pleasant service we had from the staff and Luca and Pompeo, the two brothers who run the Tourist House.

This is not a frills B&B however the service was always with a smile and the place was clean. We had a cute little room that looked out to Cavour. They were most accommodating for our schedule and when we did not arrive on time [delayed flight], they made other arrangements to get us the keys, as they are not staffed 24hours. This is no problem but do not expect room service… The free internet was a huge asset and we would grab a snack in the morning from the lobby room.

It’s not hard to find if you have the address with you; although there is no large sign, you simply have to count the building numbers [its between an internet cafe and a fantastic cafe just feet away from the Cavour Station {which is the best way to get there if you do not mind taking the Metro, as it is simply one stop from Termini on the B LINE heading the LAURENTINA direction}]

All in all we would highly recommend this House to anyone who needs to have value when visiting the sights of Rome, but wont sacrifice polite service and cleanliness!

“Self Serve B & B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2007

My husband and I finished up our honeymoon in Rome. Choose the Tourist House because of the location to the ancient center.
The location is PERFECT- we walked to Colesseum,Trevi Fountain, Spanish Stairs, Pantheon... all the way to the Vatican!
So we really only went back to the B & B, to shower and sleep. It is a bit difficult to find- no signs, a lift is availalbe to get to the fifth floor. We were greeted and given 2 keys one for the front of the building and one for our room. It felt like a hostel or college dorm. Our room was clean, our bathroom small with some water problems and the breakfast was left on a little table for you to fetch yourself. When we arrived we were both unsure if it was safe- we have travelled and never experienced anything as no frills.
It did serve it purpose for sleeping accomodations, but not worth the money we paid for it.

“Very disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2007

We just wanted to tell you about you about our stay at the Tourist House. Although it's location was pretty good, the "House" lacked so much I don't know where to begin. You should note that if you dont have a taxi or a car taking you there it can be very hard to find because there are no signs outside. The only thing that identifies the House is a small business card pasted to the call button next to the door. Our problems began when we went up to the House. Our room was not ready for us, and we had told them at what time we would be arriving. Manager was no where to be found. In fact the whole stay there we only saw him 1 time for about 5 minutes.
Once we got to the room we were disappointed to find that they were not well kept. The carpet was old and very dirty. Furniture was old, and looked very used. The bathroom in room 1 where we stayed was extremely small. The biggest joke was the shower. It was so small you could hardly fit in it. The calking was all black with mold, the celing was completly covered in mold. The doors to the shower were broken, we had to fight to get them to close, and water leaked out everytime we showered.
The air conditioner worked fairly well and windows worked great to shut our the noise.
The breakfast is just what the reviews say above. Packaged crossants, with a grody looking coffee machine and mugs for coffee. The juices in the fridge are supose to be for guests but on several occasion I saw the 2 workers help themselves to Juice and water. our overall experience in Rome was great, it just sucked coming back to a grody room at the end of everyday.

“good budget B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2007

I wanted to write a more up to date review of this B&B as the others are all pretty bad.

We stayed here for one night as our original B&B (B&B suburbe roma) had double booked us. We were dropped off in a taxi outside the buidling so we found it ok, but i can see that it might be hard to find on your own. There was limited signage to the B&B once in the apartment lobby but we worked out it was on the 5th floor quick enough and despite not speaking any italian. The lift was small but worked fine. We found the host to be very friendly, he showed us around the room and pointed out the facilities (fridge with free drinks in lobby area, free internet access, fridge in your room).

The room was clean and comfortable, although the bathroom was very small. I fitted in the shower ok (and i am quite a big girl) and the air-con worked perfectly although it did drain into the shower which seemed a bit unhygenic. The double glazing was great it really sound proofed our room. we didn't try breakfast but it looked ok if basic.

we enjoyed our one night here and i have recommended it to my mom, so it must be ok!

we thought it was a good budget B&B in an excellent location
