We stayed in Hotel Marcus in November 2009. It was really reasonably priced, and seemed from the map to be in great location, we arrived and I would agree with a previous reviewer that the gates don't look welcoming, but there is a very simple intercom system. We stayed in room 13, which I wouldn't describe as beautiful, or indeed spacious, but it did the job! The location was perfect, a stone's throw from anything you might want to see, we walked everywhere. The receptionist was incredibly helpful and friendly, if a little eccentric. She talked us through all the tourist attraction in detail, we were both really impressed, it was exactly what we needed. Night receptionist was grumpy, but it didn't detract from our enjoyment.

We had a great time, I would recommend this hotel for anyone on a budget who wants a great location. Don't go with high expectations, if you want a massive room, in a gorgeous hotel then go somewhere else and pay the premium for it!!

We were in Italy for 5 weeks .The worst place we stayed.
The room was a shoe box.The window did not open and the bed.What can I say.Well a bare mattress with 2 thin sheets (No blankets or covers and none in a cupboard.)
Very nice bathroom clean but as you touched the chrome fittings they fell off the wall.
Shower head,door knob, toilet roll holder no effort to fix them.
Computer at a desk with a lamp. Told broken .When would it be fixed?Didn't know. No safe or phone as quoted on booking form.but worst of all in description.All rooms have river views. This is a lie.and they did not care.What a shame as it had a wonderful location with very friendly people in the area.and it was safe.

This hotel was a total rip off. I made very good decisions and got great rooms in other European towns, but I bombed on this one. I paid for air conditioning, there was NONE! It's not like they just didn't have it on, it was not there. I didn't think I had to ask for a shower curtain, but I guess I should have requested it in advance. The shower was designed for a curtain. The whole bathroom got wet when you took a shower (it was small) but would have been ok if not wet. We ended up going down this ladder that passed for stairs and stealing a dirty bed sheet to use, it didn't work so well. The service was just bad, it wasn't a language problem, the people there (about 4, one on duty at a time) just didnt' care. There were other things, but I am not going to complain because it might have been unique to our stay. However I can imagine similar things with other guests. Choose another hotel in this area, or save your money and book the same horrible room somewhere else.
