“Excellent location, good price.”

We travel very frequently to Rome and it was our first time at this hotel and we really liked it. Not sure what the regular price of the hotel usually is, but we booked a rate of around US$120 per night.
Here are our views of the hotel:
1) Recently renovated, not the greatest taste, but clean and new.
2) Amazing location, it has a very cool bar in the ground floor, and you can go anywhere walking (Via del Corso, Spanish Steps, Via Condotti, etc.)
3) Free Internet!!!- wow wow wow!!
4) Noisy Noisy - Just take some earplugs and you solve the problem
5) Decent breakfast - not all hotels offer free breakfast, it is not amazing, but it saves you a few euros and you can go to lunch to a good place

I would definitely go back to this hotel. Rome is usually expensive and this is a very good compromise price-quality.

“A first in my dining out experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I would like to make clear this review only concerns the hotel restaurant "Le Bistro," where we had the bad luck to be dining last night.

We ordered a first course, a bottle of wine, a bottle of water, and a main course of pasta. It had taken us over 20 minutes to get someone's attention, but it only took 3 minutes for our main course to arrive. Plates of pasta barely out of the microwave oven, hot and frozen at the same time.

The water never arrived. The first courses arrived a little later. They were as disgusting to look at as they were to taste. We asked for cheese for the pasta which never arrived either. At this point we went inside the restaurant to inquire, but the waitress told us she was too busy (we were one of two tables, as it was late). We suggested we would not be continuing our dinner under these circumstances, but the waitress replied she did not care.

We got up and left. Without paying. Without anyone rushing to excuse themselves. A first in my dining experience.

We discussed our experience with a local friend who told us the hotel belonged to Russians. For all our friend knows, the ridiculously over-decorated hotel was a money-laundering operation. While we have no way to know whether this is true, we wanted to tell Tripadvisor readers to beware eating at this horrendous restaurant.

“Restaurant service was diabolical!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

My wife and myself decided to eat here on our second evening during a 3 day trip to Rome and although I can't comment on the establihment as a hotel / residential basis, I can say, as pretty hardy travellers, we had one of the worst experiences service-wise any where in the world !!
The writing was on the wall really as it took two frantic waitresses 15 minutes to even acknowledge that we would possibly like a menu / drink, ( it wasn't actually very busy either !), but we stuck with it as the setting of narrow cobbled streets etc was lovely and we weren't in any major hurry.
I'm going to try to cut a very long episode of events short, as what happened in the next hour and a half (!) was comical up to the point I actually got to see the manager to complain.
It was plainly obvious ( and quite amusing ) that the two waitresses were totally incapable of fetching a few bland plates of over priced pasta / rissotto / pizzas to customers tables. A couple, who sat next to us, waited an hour for their 'meals' to be served and when they asked where their food was, they were told that they ( the waitresses ) had forgotten about them !!! and they had to wait a further 15 minutes !
During part of this waiting game, we also had to endure two male colleagues, ( what I could only guess were 'management' as they were doing alot of watching of the incompetent waitresses, without offering to help ! ), change a propane gas cylinder in a patio heater for about 10 minutes, les than 2-3 feet from where my wife was sitting, without offering any 'excuse me madams'....unbelievable ignorance!!
Anyway....eventually, nearly TWO hours later, without being offered a dessert menu / another drink etc in all this time, we asked for the bill. The waitress came back and started to ask US what we had eaten / drank !! At which point I asked to see the manager, which was met with her throwing a bit of a tantrum and saying "I knew you were going to complain!!" She then told me I would have to go and find the manager as he was very busy! I then demanded to see the manager as we weren't prepared to settle the bill in full.
In short one of the 'managers' came out about 5 mins later and we were virtually told that it was too bad, as they were having building work done and it wasn't a "fast food complex" !!
No offer of any reduction or apology by him or anyone else, and we were eventually told to pay in full or he would call the police!!
In summing up, this has got to be the WORST service I have ever received at a restaurant and would not recommend anyone to eat here, unless you want what we received... a poor expensive plate of 'food' with disgraceful disregard for customer service and extreme rudeness to boot! it ruined what should have been a pleasant evening for both of us!
Apologies fro the long winded rant, but really needed to get this off my chest!

“Great location but over prices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

This hotel had a fantastic location. It is minutes to the spanish steps and the Metro. It was located on a narrow street that is one of many lined with restaurants and little boutiques and designer shops. The streets surrounding the hotel were buzzing in the evenings which was great for eating and drinking but very noisy when you were trying to sleep in your room! The windows are old fashioned and although look very nice, not double glazed and keep no noise out whatsoever! The bathroom was of a very low standard. The decor was very basic and shabby, no shower and the tub drain did not work. The staff at reception were pleasant but did not go out of their way for you. They missed my wake up call which caused me to be late for a tour. They were not very concerned. Breakfast, was ok but again staff not very pleasant. It was not a four and I would not stay there again.

“Noise, noise, noise!”

I never thought that I would be staying awake at 2:30 am because of a loud crowd outside of my room out on the street. This has been going on for the last two nights. Maybe that is the way it is here in Rome, everyone Complaint to the front desk but no use. We will cut our stay a day short and check out tomorrow. Do not be fooled by 4 star rating. It is barely a step above Motel 6. The name "Royal Palace Hotel" is totally misleading. I have to say though we left our safe unlocked on our first day and everything was untouched.
