“*Amazing location & good breakfast*”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2012 NEW

I have lived in Italy for a year, and this was my 4th time going to Rome. I had my mom and friend from the states coming to visit, and wanted a hotel in a good location, that wasn't too pricey. This is how I stumbled upon Arenula. Upon arrival, check in was stress free. I had read reviews that it was necessary to sign up for a breakfast slot the night before, which was helpful because otherwise you may miss the breakfast, since they do not mention it when booking through their website.

The hotel is situated in the heart of Trastevere. The Trastevere neighborhood is vibrant both day and night with hundreds of restaurants and bars to choose from. In a city as large as Rome, it is important that you feel like you can blend with the locals, and this area is the perfect spot. We walked from our hotel to all of the major attractions (except Vatican, which is far from everything).

The room itself was standard for Italian hotels. The beds were a bit hard, but the bathroom was clean and we had a cute balcony that overlooked the street. The location is very safe and there is everything from a Pharmacy to small convenient stores right around the corner, which was quite convenient. You can also ask the front desk for a city map, which was very helpful.

Despite the pain of having to "sign-up" for a breakfast slot of 30 minutes, the breakfast was probably in the top 10% of breakfasts I have had in Italy. They served croissants, rolls, fruit, yogurt, cereal, hot coffee (they even made cappuccino and caffe lattes for us) juice, water and cheeses.

I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are on a budget ($175/night in US Dollars). I would certainly go back and give this recommendation to anyone I knew looking for a hotel in Rome.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012

Excellent central location. Clean rooms & bathroom with daily maid service.

As echoed in previous posts, if everyone sticks to their half hour breakfast slot then the morning experience is much more tolerable Unfortunately we saw rude guests ignoring the serving staff request to wait at the door and seating themselves at uncleared tables then getting aggressive when they werent served coffee straight away.
It became apparent that the need for booking is because of limited table/ seating space but also a limited number of cutlery & crockery they had therefore requesting to take coffee or breakfast in your room or in the lobby wont get you fed and watered any quicker than waiting for a table.

We stayed on the third floor which was quite a chore after walking around the city all day, however not impossible.
We didnt notice any other noise from within the hotel and despite the beds being quite hard we slept well every night.

“Great Location and a Good Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2012

Stayed here for 4 nights starting on 4/6/2012. The prior reviews pretty well reflects the hotel. The location is great, the price is affordable, the staff courteous and the accomdations and bath clean. We had a 4th floor room and we were aware previously there was no elevator in the hotel. That got a bit tiresome after a few days. The solution to that would be to ask for a lower floor room. We were also, from prior reviews, aware of the need for breakfast reservations so that was not a bother. The breakfast was simple but the coffee was really good. Since breakfast came with the room, it was not overpriced. On the downside, the beds were hard and there was no visible A/C except for a window.Overall this is a very good hotel for the price and fit our need very well.

Room Tip: Be award of the need for breakfast reservation. Be aware the hotel has no elevator.

“Timing is everything!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2012

We were 3 friends from Denmark staying at the Arenula. Hotel is well-situated - the hotel and its rooms are basic but clean and well worth the reasonable price for the location. Some guests were unaware that they needed to reserve a half-hour breakfast slot. Others arrived later than their slot and/or stayed too long. Considering the limited space - and the hotel's attempt to be efficient - we would encourage guests to be considerate: come to breakfast on time and leave no later than your slot's end. Thumbs up for this hotel!
