“The Charming Center of Rome's Historic Center”

I have brought small groups to Hotel Smeraldo since the year 2000. This quaint hotel provides exactly what my groups are looking for in a Roman hotel: a renovated historic building, immaculately clean rooms with private baths, two outdoor terraces that are the perfect setting for "happy hour" gatherings, and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Imagine yourself in a tucked-away Roman neighborhood, where coffee bars, restaurants, and even a fabulous bakery are just a stone's throw away. This hidden yet strategically located gem is only a five minute walk from Rome's daily farmers market, the Piazza Navona (arguably Rome's most beautiful square), and the Pantheon that was built in 27 BC! If you are a brisk walker you can make it to the Vatican, Trastevere, or to the Coliseum in just 20 minutes.

If you are looking for a place to sleep soundly, with easy access to all of the sights.... consider Hotel Smeraldo. Is it OK to point out that I discovered this place long before Rick Steves did?

Room Tip: Many rooms are on the "cozy" side. If you are a taller or larger person, simply request a...

“Call if you have young children, elderly for a better rate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We had 3 adults (my husband, elderly Aunt, and I) and a 2 1/2 year old boy. If you book online, they will require you to get 2 rooms and my Aunt was not comfortable being alone. When we called, they accomodated us in a comfortable 3 bedroom for a reasonable rate.. it is worth the international call (just skype it). I highly recommend doing this when traveling with children, most Italian hotels were very accomodating with kids and families with elderly sharing a room. The front desk was efficient but not very cordial. They were not very helpful when my Aunt tried to call home with the calling card. Room was clean and sufficient. Location is good since you are near the Campo dei Fiori and Piazza Navona. Also, do not close the shutters at night or you may oversleep since the room is so dark... we almost had to pay an extra night! We also would have recommended to have the breakfast included next time simply for the convenience of a traveling young family... If you are arriving in Rome first and want to see everything without exhausting yourself fighting jet lag it is a good idea to have had this included for your first stop. Spend and Splurge on dinner and lunch in Italy!

Room Tip: Call the hotel after you get the online rate

“Good location near Campo Fiori”

We spent three nights at this hotel in Rome. Our room was lovely but the room and bathroom were very, very small. They must have bigger rooms. The hotel was well maintained. Breakfast was included and was adequate. Our room was very clean. Hotel staff was helpful. I would stay here again but request a larger room. The hotel has an annex but we were in the main hotel. The location was perfect--close to bus lines and within an easy walk to Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona etc. Inspite of our small room I would recommend this hotel. A good value hotel for the location.

“Perfect location!”

We stayed here with a large group about 7 years ago, and decided to revisit for a family break. Great decision. We were in the annex - two teenage boys in a twin room, next door to me and my husband. The staff were friendly and helpful, and very patient with my almost non-existant Italian! Breakfast set us up well for the day, and the hotel is just so central! We walked everywhere and had a fabulous return trip to Rome. The rooms aren't massive - but with all there is to see in Rome, who would stay inside for long?
