“One to be missed”

A group of us stayed here in September 2003 for a weekend break and were very disappointed. The only advantage was the location, perfect for shopping, restaurants and atmosphere.

The rooms were tiny, breakfast was only served in your room which defeated the object of the 6 of us all having breakfast together each morning, the choice of breakfast also very limited. On check out most of our bills were wrong, showing items we had not had, inlcuding telephone charges etc.

For location, maybe this is the right place for you if you don't mind a tiny room with very limited facilities but don't go expecting great service.

“Palio Bianco was perfect, A real taste of Italy”

My husband and I were in Rome for 9days in November 2003. We picked this hotel based on the location and the ideal price. ($3000.00 CND for the both of us, includes airfare, and hotel, through expedia) The hotel had around 4-5 rooms. The lobby was small and quaint with pictures, old books and furniture that greeted you. My trip was not planned to hang around in the hotel lobby so the size did not bother us. There were several restaurants in the area, as well as bars with music and tv's to watch sporting events and relax. We were within walking distance to Piazza Navona, 30seconds, approximately 5mins from the Pantheon, and no more than 25mins walk to the Vatican, St Peter's, Colisseum. We couldn't of picked a better hotel to stay at, had we lived in Rome. Our hotel was very spacious, 2 floors, bathroom, shower/tub, hairdryer, comfy bed, phone, nice table with chairs, bar fridge, mirros and a huge window that opened so we could watch people from our room. Every morning we were supplied with bread, rolls,. butter coffee juice. There was someone who made our bed everyday and took away our dishes by the time we would arrive back from our sightseeing. The nice part of our hotel was that it was small, full of Italian culture, and no employees hanging around to bother you upon your return or arrival. We met some tourists on our shuttle bus heading back to the airport and they checked out of their "Itlaian" style hotel on the 2nd day they were in Rome because they did not think it was Americanized enough. So they booked into a Holiday Inn, and were so relieved to see english CNN on their TV and bacon served at the restaurant for breakfast. We went to Rome to experience "Do as the Romans Do". I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I will say it is not a Sheraton in terms or slippers and coffee pots in the room, however it is comfortable, clean, and a true Roman experience.

“Tolerable”

This 3 Star hotel did not live up to it's name as it wasn't anything more than a guesthouse. The 'hotel' just consisted of bedrooms and breakfast (which was very nice) was provided as room service.

However the rooms were nice, clean and comfortable, though the bathroom was a bit cramped and the lack of a shower curtain made the shower unusable. The location was central and close to all the tourist attractions, though it could be a bit noisy at night which could be a problem for light sleepers.

I thought that the hotel was a bit pricy, considering that it wasn't really a hotel, but I haven't done any comparisons with other similarly located accommodation in Rome, so I may be wrong.

“Avoid Palio Bianco”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2003

I was taking my beloved to Italy for the first time. We had visions of romance and beauty. We arrived at Palio Bianco last Monday, in its fantastic location behind Piazza Navona, (for which we were paying), in the rain, glad to finally be dry and stationery. We were disappointed as soon as we walked in and saw the reality of what we had seen in their ad photos on the web. The lobby which looked so spacious was tiny. The walls, furniture and carpet were worn or stained. I couldn't imagine how they got to call it a three-star hotel. We were greeted by a young man who immediately told us that our room was unavailable (we had booked several months in advance) and that we would be taken to another hotel. Having selected this hotel for its location, I was not happy. I was given little detail about where we were going except to say that it was "nearby". When I asked for a discount, the atmosphere became extremly chilly; our host silent. We were taken to the Palio Bianco Castello on Piazza Venezia. Not a horrible location, but not where we wanted to be. In contrast to the two-room suite we had paid for, in this hotel we were shown to a tiny, dark box of a room, decorated in dark brocade. Our window faced the street so that when the trash folk came at 2 AM to empty the half-dozen dumpsters that were under our window, we had a ringside seat.Probably the most interesting thing about the hotel was the hallway art. Well, it would be interesting if it were in a gallery, and one didn't have to look at it all the time. On our floor, we had what looked like a fiberglass sculpture of a man sitting on a chair, wrapped in chains and handcuffed. We also had another man sitting on a step with his pants down, as if he were sitiing on the toilet. Very warm; very romantic. At breakfast, the guests were treated with thinly disguised tolerance that bordered on rudeness. It goes without saying that the subject of a discount was referred to an anonymous off-site "manager" who was the only one who could decide such an unusual request, and that it was never acted upon.By all means, avoid the Palio Bianco Suites and the Castello at all costs.

“Avoid this hotel like the plague!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2003

This hotel was listed as a 4 star on another website and is no where near that quality. We were first told our hotel was in a small building that looked like a residence and once inside, saw crumbling walls, exposed wires, and dirty furniture. We were told by hotel management that we would go to another property because all of the beds were broken, as was the plumbing. The second place wasn't much better.
Extremely small rooms, dingy decor, ruined walls and a miniscule bathroom greeted us. Further, each floor was crammed with very tacky paintings, sculptures and other oddities. While the location is great (near the Coloseum, Trevi Fountain, etc.), that alone is not worth the pain of staying in this hotel.
