“Location < Location!!!!”

Hotel Villa Borghese---superb staff!!! the most helpful, considerate I have encountered!!! The room was very small--but adequate--spotlessly clean. Shower was hand held and no way to avoid soaking the floor-=-but very clean each day. The view leaves a bit to be desired and the alley noise from the bar at night was sometimes loud--but ( for me) the worst part--the elevator was a small closet on a rope! My mother had no problem using it--for me--way too claustrophobic! I took the (many) stairs. The staff was incredible--booked us a restaurant every evening and reminded us that we needed one each afternoon when we returned--wonderful little places that would appeal to all and helped us to avoid higher prices. The Spanish Steps could be viewed a few blocks away from the street in front--LOCATION LOCATION!! Walking distance ( sometimes a bit long) to everything--Vatican, colloseum, piazza Navona, Pantheon. Note: a GOOD walk--20-30 mins--to most places---but awesome sightseeing on the way! The staff provided maps and directions to everything--extremely helpful!! Hotel entrance a bit unusual--large door--but how cool is it to be let into the castle each day by buzzer? Not your standard hotel lobby-. Overall excellent hotel--would highly recomend to those who want a true Rome experience.

  • Liked — the staff and location
  • Disliked — elevator--scary small
  • Tips/Secrets — wear your walking shoes--ask staff for help--amazingly helpful!

“Excellent value for money”

We were a group of 8 (3 couples and 2 singles) and all of us were quite happy with our rooms. There are no lifts and the luggage was brought up by one of the staff. Since our room was on the 4th floor this was especially appreciated. Our room had a very nice bathroom and was light and airy. The towels were changed every day. The staff was genial, spoke English, always eager to answer all our questions. The hotel has a very comfortable lounge which was an ideal meeting place for us all. The only drawback the noise from the streets but at night, with the shutters closed, this wasn't a problem. The location was superb, across the street from the Borghese Gardens and the Museum of the Villa Borghese. We are walkers and it was only a 20 minute walk to The Termini. Bus service is convenient to the hotel. Breakfast, included, was more than adequte (yogurt, cereal, rolls, coffee, tea). Like most older European hotels, there is no proper fire escape route other than the stairs to the rooms. No question that I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rome.

“relaxing after a busy day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2005

We chose this hotel because of its location overlooking the Borghese Park and were not disappointed. The staff were all extremely helpful, courteous and friendly. The small number of rooms made for a homely atmosphere. The room was kept very clean and towels changed every day.
The staff offered much practical advice regarding travel to the centre, moderately priced restaurants within easy walking distance and directions to the nearby GS supermarket. When my husband got food poisoning from a snackbar near the Trevi Fountain they could not have been more helpful. There was some traffic noise but it was quieter than some areas. We used the orange buses to get about and found the service quick and frequent. The bus returned us almost to the door of the hotel.
We found the area to be a pleasant one and were only sorry we hadn't allowed more time for exploring the park.

“Overpriced and scruffy”

Stayed here for a week in October 2003. The rooms are very small, dark and dingy. In some of the singles the bed takes up the full length and you can can lie in bed and touch the wall on the other side of the room. Furnishing and bathroom facilities are all rather old and scruffy. My shower was no more than a rather pathetic trickle. Breakfast is the absolute bear minimum - a cup of coffee, bread roll and bit of jam. Though the hotel is located opposite the lovely Villa Borghese park it is also situated right on the edge of a busy main road a good half an hours walk to the Spanish steps. In summary, if you are prepared to do a bit of research (which we will definitely do in future) there are much better places to stay in Rome at similar or lower prices.

“Clean, friendly and good value....”

I stayed here on my honeymoon in 2001. The staff were lovely and friendly, and our room was spacious and clean, with gorgeous view overlooking the villa borghese and it's fabulous gardens. The rooms were well airconditioned (a must for the weather in summer in Rome).
The hotel was very old fashioned ie. furnishings, marble floors, and very 'roman' if you get my drift. There was a lovely cosy homely feel about it, and it was great sitting in the shade of the vines on the patio pergola having our breakfast. It was very reasonable (we paid just over e100 for two of us on a B&B basis) and there is a bus stop right across the street. I'd definitely book it again if I was going back to Rome - hopefully I will sometime!
