“nice hotel but not in the nicest area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2004

very nice hotel but horrible surroundings. the hotel itself is very nive but there was nothing around but a supermarket(which we did find handy), car yards & nothing interesting. the room we had was very spacious & so was the bathroom (the shower was tiny though). the breakfast was also quite good & we ate at the restaurant one of the nights we stayed there & found the food good but the menu selection very limited. to get to the city you have to bus it (close by) then train. location not the best but very nice hotel.

“Easy access to Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2004

Good quality 4 star hotel just 7km from Ciampino Airport and 8km from Rome City Centre. Hotel has well equipped bedrooms with full facilities including a free safety deposit box. Breakfast is excellent, other meals are of good quality but pricey. Easy access to Rome using bus and metro. Catch the 664 bus just across the road and one minutes walk from the Hotel. 4 stops down the road and you are dropped off at the metro. 10 minutes on the metro and you are in the centre of Rome. Buy your ticket at the Kiosk opposite the Hotel for just 1 euro and this takes you on both the bus and metro.

There is a Supermarket, bank and other shops opposite the Hotel and a couple of places to eat. If however, you want a quality meal at a reasonable price then try the La Bottegaccia at Via Al Quarto Miglio. This is just 10 minutes easy walk from the Hotel. Leave the Hotel, turn left and walk down the road until you come to the Bank of Roma. Take the first turning left after the bank and you will find the La Bottegaccia about 200 yards on the right hand side of the road. Other places are in the same area.

Watch the Taxi's from the airport, they overcharge. You should pay between 15 and 20 euros for the fare for 2 people and 2 suitcases. I paid 50 coming in ( It was a Sunday but I was still ripped off) but only 15 for the return journey with a Taxi called by the Hotel.

“Nice hotel in a grotty area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2004

A nice, clean hotel. Modern, well-equipped rooms. Set in pretty grounds. Large restaurant serving a limited menu of reasonably good food, but quite overpriced and no other decent restaurants to choose from in the immediate area. The staff were not very welcoming or particularly helpful considering that there were not many guests. Mainly a business rather than tourist hotel, the Appia Park is situated quite a way out of Rome - easy to get to by bus and tube which was quite regular, but the surrounding area was very industrial and unnattractive, covered in grafitti and on a huge busy road.
