I traveled to Rome for four days (three nights) with my mother. Hotel Caravel got chosen as the accommodation for our trip randomly, mainly because of the price compared to hotels in central Rome. Thinking back now, a hotel in central Rome might be worth the money. Even though there are several busses that take you from the bus stop next to the hotel to the central Rome or to one of the metro station, they did not always go as often as one could hope. For example on Sundays the bus number 715 (recommended to us by the hotel staff) was supposed to leave Piazza Venezia (in the centre) ones an hour. Furthermore, we waited the bus for over an hour in the centre around 7pm and in the end took a taxi as there was no sign of the bus anywhere.
Other than the location, the hotel did not impress us, either. It was not the worst hotel I have been to, but far from the best. We found the staff somewhat rude and unwilling to assist us with our problems. For example when we asked helped in removing the plug of the bathtub that had been left stuck by someone prior to us, the receptionist was very rude and apparently thought we were just two women unable to handle it ourselves and thus bothered him pointlessly. It took, however, almost an hour and at least two different tools for the janitor to remove the plug.
The main problem we had with this hotel was the thin walls and extremely noisy bathrooms. If you needed to use the bathroom during the night you were sure to wake up the people not only in your own room but the room next to yours as there was a relatively loud noise that lasted for about five minutes when you for example flushed the toilet. We were, at least, woken up by the neighbor's bathroom visits every night.
Besides using the bathroom during the night, our neighbors were also extremely loud whenever coming back to their room or discussing with each other, and because of the thin walls this definitely woke us up numerous times.
The rooms were, on a good note, spacious and clean enough. The breakfast was relatively good, nothing special and little variety (at least during three/four mornings) but definitely enough for us.
I would probably not go to this hotel again, mainly because of the noise that disturbed me during the nights. The location is not the best possible, but as long as you don't mind taking the bus or the metro and are not too impatient to get to the centre fast whenever you want to, it is not too big of a problem. As said above I wasn't personally a big fan of the attitude of the staff, but it is a question of personal preference and what I am used to, so it probably isn't a problem for everyone.
