I stayed in this hotel for two nights in mid-January and ended up having to sleep in my coat. I returned very late the first night after an exhausting day in Rome and quickly fell asleep. An hour later I woke up shivering. I searched the room for a proper blanket (the bed only had a thin sheet) and the heating control, but found nothing. I put my coat on and curled up in a ball to keep warm. In the morning it was painful to shower and go from delicious warm water into an ice cold room. I went down to complain about the heat and was told that there is central heating in the hotel and that later in the day housekeeping would check the heat in my room. I received no apology, no mention of a reduction in the bill due to the absence of a basic necessity, but just a blank look. There were not enough chairs in the breakfast room so I had to bring up my food on a paper plate and eat in my freezing room. I returned that night and the room was slightly better on first inspection. I was able to sleep only using a heavy sweater, but when I woke up the room was cold again. I quickly dressed, breakfasted, and said good riddance to this hotel. I urge people not to stay in this place in winter. The lack of heat won’t be a problem in other seasons and perhaps the pungent smell of must that permeates the room and hallways subsides.
