“Really good budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I have to say that value and price ratio of this hotel is great. Double room with breakfast for 42 euros.Things that I liked were... The location. It is easy to find the hotel when arriving first time, and it is conveniently located when coming from Termini. Two Metro stations are nearby and it is also possible to walk to some touristic sites. Room and bathroom are very clean. Buffet breakfast was also very good. Staff in hotel is very friendly.
Things that I didn't like were...Bed in the room is shorter than standard,I guess about 180 cm. i didn't like the smell of towels (but this smell is usual in European hotels). I didn't like area around Termini, mostly on the north side. Also I didn't like room decor :).

Room Tip: Choose higher floor to avoid street noise.

“Mariano - Good value & location.”

Stayed at Mariano in Jan, 12. Located 4min walk from termini station, Heard alot of negative comments about the terminiarea but we enjoyed it! not a ghetto at all and we always felt safe. The hotel is not Grand and flashy but it does the job and our room on 4th floor was really nice with a new bathroom and ac/tv etc.. staff is friendly and you get a map over rome when u check in.

The location of Mariano is the best. 4min centralstation, 10min Colloseum, 20min fontana di trevi, etc.. Walking distance to everything even to the Vatikancity, about 40-50min

Would stay at mariano again

“Great Hotel”

Good for what it is. Friendly hotel staff, always willing to give you directions. 4min walk to Termini station, major sites not in walkable distance but ok as bus links and metro fantastically close to the hotel. Breaksfast was the same every morning, crosisants, bread, biscuits, selection of coffes, herbal teas and hot chocolate. Service is good. i stayed in room 502, very clean and modern looking. Do not expect 4 or 5 stars but it is a very nice 3 star hotel.

“Perfect budget hotel for sightseeing in Rome!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

Firstly this is a budget 3 star hotel in rome so it's important to review it with this in mind and not expecting 4 or 5 star luxury!

Yes the area is maybe a little bit run down but we felt safe enough and the location is perfect, especially if coming on terrevision bus shuttle from Ciampino airport as it is 5 mins away from the bus stop. The metro termini is just around the corner so brilliant transport all over rome, we chose to walk most places as only takes 10 mins to colloseum from this hotel. The staff were very helpful, room clean and large, no tea or coffee facilities in the room but not a big issue as had plenty at the breakfast. Overall, the rooms are clean, maybe a bit shabby in places but all of italy is a bit run down!

For the price you pay (we paid £40 per room per night in December for B&B) we can not fault it at all and would definitely stay again. If you are more bothered about seeing the sights and not spending all your time in the hotel then this is the one for you, if you prefer luxury and everything spotless, then pay more and stay elsewhere.

I think people expect too much for what they pay sometimes and complain about the most stupid things!

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up the hotel as not as much noise from the road.

“Baited by another hotel, switched to this one”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Another hotel (Hotel Kennedy) said they were full, and moved us here when we arrived. I twisted my ankle en route to this hotel. We got to our room which was small but had high ceilings. My husband advised me to soak my ankle in the tub, but it was visibly dirty, and there was mold growing on it, so all I did was cry some more.

He went to the front desk asking where he could get ice, and they looked at him like he had seven heads. They said they did not have any. He came back to the room and we took water bottles out of the minibar. We used those to keep the swelling down on my ankle.

The room was dirty. Luckily it was a one-night stay. I slept on top of the covers, with my clothes on, because the whole room felt very dirty. There was also a hole in the ceiling. The bed was terribly uncomfortable. Both my husband and I woke up several times during the night because our limbs had gone numb.

I was so glad I didn't have to stay at this hotel any longer. My standards aren't that high, but this was pretty bad.

I will say that we did enjoy our continental breakfast in the morning, especially the blood orange juice.
