“Not all hotels are created equal”

We ended up at this hotel because the tour operater we used messed up our booking 4 days before we were to lleave for our family Christmas vacation. We had two rooms on the 3rd floor and hotel had no elevator. One of the room had no shower curtain and when asked for one the reply was " what do u want me to do about it!" Their idea of a continental breakfast was very poor, myhusband didn't mind the bed that felt like sleeping on wood plank but I did . The hotel was less then three blocks from the Trimini station which was nice but always crowded. The two older gentleman who man the desk are very nice and the lady who serves the continental breakfast also very nice. She made my husband a special morning pastry for he's birthday.

Room Tip: Just know there no elevator, rooms were kept warm. They are very small. We had three ppl per room, e...

“Comfortable hotel in a convenient location”

We stayed here for a week at the end of Sept. beginning of Oct. It is located close to Rome's main railway station - Termini. We used the express train direct from airport - the Leonardo Express, 15 euros each but if there is more than one of you it might be easier to get a cab - around 40 euro's.
Rooms are smallish but adequate, we stored our suitcases on top of wardrobe. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, public areas, bedroom, bathroom. Towels were a good size and replaced daily. Shower always had plenty of hot water and good pressure. Hair dryer is fixed to wall and not that easy to use if you want to blow dry hair with a brush, I had taken my own and used that. The hotel advertised room safes but ours didn't work however staff were quick to offer to store items in hotel safe. In the end we locked things in our suitcase - laptops etc. We were not able to connect to wifi (cost is 3.50 euros for one hour) but other people had no difficulty. Close by there is a laundromatte where they will do your laundry for 9 euro's a load and you can use their fast computers for about 1;50 euros per hour.
Breakfast buffet has rolls, danish, cheese, cold cuts, cereal, fruit (tinned),yogurt, juice coffee and tea. Milena (staff member) sets out breakfast each day and insisted on finding a tray and carrying our breakfasts outside into the lemon tree court for us. This was a beautiful place to eat breakfast and plan the day's activities. One day we came back from touring to find Milena had put 2 apples in our room for us!
We found the room fairly quiet although you could hear someone snoring in another room one night. The room has a/c but it is not particlarly strong and since our room was on ground floor and glass door doubled as window we could not leave it open at night. Beds are pretty hard, at one point my husband was convinced that there was no mattress only a box spring but there was in fact a mattress and better too hard than too soft.
The people on the desk were very helpful in giving directions to places we wanted to visit and in explaining how to buy metro tickets etc. We had a great week.
There are limited restaurants in the area, not expensive but not amazing food either. We did use the Living room cafe/club several nights as they had free wifi and we could eat and do e mail etc. at the same time.

“Decent spot, good value for a downtown hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We stayed here on the first night of our journey and the last two nights of our trip. The first night we had a decent size room on the interior of the hotel. It had a double bed and a twin bed. The bathroom was decent, however tub had no shower curtain, but wasn't a issue for me. Last two nights, we had a much smaller room, and the bathroom was very tiny, with mold in the shower. Room was on the road side, and heard trash trucks and street sweepers all night. So room location is important on whether or not I would recommend this hotel again. Staff was awesome!

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room away from the road.

“I will be staying there again in 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

I found Armando and his staff Giacomo, Milena, Roldan, Danili, Giovanni and Matthew of great service in the nearly 2 weeks I was there. This was my second stay at Hotel Select in Rome and the staff was very helpful with advice on where to go and to save a money when purchasing tickets. They are all very friendly, trustworthy and their English ranged from Excellent to Good. The early morning complimentary breakfast will meet your needs when starting the day. The hotel-at least where I was staying was quiet and the A/C was good enough to relieve you of the August heat you will experience in Rome. Termini station is less then a 10 minute walk from the hotel and the streets are well lit with various Italian Carbineri and Justice ministries nearby-so I felt safe at the early morning ours when I traveled the streets to Termini. Also nearby are commercial postage center I used successfully to mail a package, laundromat and Internet

I intend to stay there again in 2012.

“A horrible experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

This hotel has a messy system. I booked a triple room for one week in this hotel and when I got there they said they did not receive my booking confirmation email so I didn't have a room although I paid for it and had a copy of my booking confirmation in my hand. Since the receptionist could not talk/read in English I had to log in to my email, use Google translator, translate the booking confirmation to Italian to prove I booked and paid for the room. After 30-45 minutes of checking their emails and calling I don't know who they accept that they made a mistake but still no room. So we had to wait for him to call other hotels and find a room for us for a night. Imagine how frustrated we were. Anyway we were sent to another hotel for a night, the next morning we were back to Hotel Select and they gave us a DOUBLE room instead of a triple which was located right behind the reception. Yes, we could hear people coming and going, talking, all the receptionist's phone calls, etc. during the night. This went on during whole our stay. I'm sure I will NEVER EVER go back there again. BTW I booked the room via Hotels.com and they refuse to put my review in their website. They just say "try again, maybe something went wrong" I tried twice and still nothing is there.

Room Tip: if you're planning to stay here tell them you don't want to stay in none of the rooms behind...
