“The best place to stay in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

A wonderful residence in probably the best location in Rome. For those that don't know a residence in Italy is like a serviced apartment not a hotel - so you get a bedroom, sitting room and kitchen or kitchenette with maid service each day but don't expect a restaurant on site or pools and so forth - I think one or two of the negative reviews here reflect a lack of understanding as to what the place is...

The rooms are clean and have nice views and the Penthouse especially has great views through 360 degrees, water is always hot, linen always clean and the decor might best be described as classic italian (a shabby chic) everything you need is in the rooms (I've stayed many times over the last 8 years and never found a room with no mirrors or places to put luggage as one reviewer suggested) and there are nice Bang Olufsen tv's etc and fast ethernet broadband in every room

The staff are very helpful and will look after cases for you, arrange transport, even do laundry etc like a hotel. You get a room key and front door key so you can come and go as you please at all hours though there is a night porter on duty if needed. The hotel is also a modern art gallery with some interesting and diverting pieces around.

Its situated close to all the touristy parts of Rome and there is a metro and a taxi rank opposite and a few doors up from the best coffee shop in Rome (Pepey's)

The rooms are no the cheapest available but not expensive by Rome standards and what you get is a suite with kitchen and a double sofa bed in the lounge so you could sleep a whole family in the one room rather than just a couple. For a romantic stay then the penthouse with twin patios for private sunbathing is ideal.

I've stayed in Rome many times including lovely hotels like the Westin and the Parco de Principei but this is the only place I always go back to now I've found it.

“Location, location , location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

The hotel is centrally located literally 2 minutes from the Barberini piazza. We (my mom and 6 year old son) stayed in an apartment in the 2nd floor. I would call it guest house or B&B than hotel. It has retained quite a lot of period features. You can look out of the bedroom window and see the row of Roman buildings (i think - as in old Rome!). The room and the hotel too for that matter requires updating - everything looks old and tired. We had booked a 2 bed apartment with kitchen facilities. Staff assistance was a bit of hit and miss! There is a small restaurant just next door to the hotel that does good food, including takeaways, at reasonable prices. The white restaurant (or some white something) around the corner, is terrible. Appearances can be deceptive as it looks great from the outside. The hop on hop off tour point is 5 minutes walk from the residence barberini. The Trevi fountain is about 10 to 15 minutes depending on your speed. Whilst it was a central location. I am not too sure if I will stay here again.

“loved coming home to our apartment in rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

convenient location. not too much in the tourist-filled area, but a few steps away from the metro station, with almost all the famous places within walking distance. good english speaking staff with great recommendations as to groceries to go to, transportation advice, etc. roomy and clean, makes you really feel like you are living in rome.

“A bit pricey but right in the heart of Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

We stayed at Residence Barberini during the half terms in October for 4 nights..
It is located very close to Piazza Barberini and walking distance to Trevi fountain (10 minutes), Colosseum (15-20 minutes), Vittore Emmanuel Monument (10-15 minutes), Pantheon (15 minutes), Piazza Navona (20 minutes)....

I know most travellers do extensive walking in Rome but we also used the limited Metro connections to reach Vatican (Ottaviano, Cipro stns), Piazza Del Popolo (Flaminio stn), Colosseum (colosseo stn) and Termini.

The residence itself is a bit dated and needs a renovation.. The rooms are spacious and there is 24 hours service (not room service)...Reception was quite helpful in dealing with all our requests. Rooms have fully equipped kitchen, LCD TV with English channels and is serviced daily..
There is no dishwasher but its not a problem and the daily service takes care of dishes. There is no washing machine/dryer but there is public laundry on via Degli Avignonesi..
Its a bit pricey but it scores heavily in terms of its central location!

“Great Place - But Beware!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

There isn't a better place to stay in central Rome: quiet, large suites, very helpful and knowledgeable staff. But be cautious: I had $1500.00 stolen from my room, undoubtedly by the housekeeping staff. Of course it was denied. Yes, I should have used the safe, no doubt. My disappointment lies in the fact that the owner avoided me for four days after I reported the incident, despite promises that he would talk to me about it. This indifference put a damper on an otherwise very enjoyable visit. Moral: lock up everything valuable!
