“Good Location for a Good Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

person found this review helpful

Me and Boyfriend stayed at the Igea over new year 10/11. I booked it in October and all other hotels in the centre where already creeping up in price but the Igea seemed reasonable.
Plus points
The location is great, you are within walking distance of just about everything apart from St Peters which is a short metro ride away which you can get from Termini station which is no more than 5 mins from the hotel. The best way to see Rome is to walk, its tiring but really worth it as you see so much more.
The rooms are fairly basic but very comfy and very very clean, which is the main thing that attracted me to this hotel from other reviews.
The staff are all very helpful and speak very good english and are able to assist you with most things that you ask.
Breakfast is included, yes it is a little basic but is fine for a quick meal before heading out sightseeing. There are plenty of other restaurants around if you want something more for breakfast.
Bad Points
I know it is a city and noise is to be expected but it is noisy, on the first night the people in the room above us seemed to be moving all the furniture round at 2am and we heard every movement they made for the whole trip. This is not really the hotels fault (more, disrespectul fellow guests) and i feel fairly sure all hotels will be the same. You do hear street noise and it was especailly noisy with it being new years but this didnt bother us as much.

Overall i loved this little hotel, it had a certain charm and i would definately recommend it.

“Noisy place.. Ok for short stays”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

We stayed in the hotel on our last night in Rome. Hotel is reasonably ok, rooms are noisy in evenings. Location is very near to the rome station which is good. Staff is just about ok (The waiter at the breakfast was quite grumpy when asked for a hot chocolate!). Its ok for short stays if you are looking for a economical option.

“Clean basic hotel - a good base for Rome.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

We booked here for our short break to Rome for £80 per night, which I thought was a good deal for what it is worth, hence the 4 star rating - based on value for money.

The hotel is located near the station, making it a good base for getting around - despite not being in the heart of all the action, the Colloseo is 10-15 mins walk away, and the historic centre slightly further. If you are willing to walk (or use the Metro (we only used it to get to St. Peters for our early morning tour)) it is a good base.

Yes there is noise outside, and you want the windows open so you can have a breeze, but which city isn't noisy? They do need to sort out the air con though. The shutters do make it completely black should you wish to close them.

The room is small, but very clean, and you'll spend so little time in it it doesn't matter.

The beds are very firm and very small and as with most continental hotels we were given 2 beds pushed together as oppose to a double.

The lift is something from the 70s, which stops at every mid level, so you do need to carry luggage (not that we had much), up/down a flight of stairs.

Breakfast was poor, cornflakes, bread and coissants, as well as juice and coffee, but you'd expect some fruit/ continental meats for it to be worth going!

Watch-out: Free wifi - but only in the reception, not your hotel room.

All in all it's very clean, and with a make-over to update it and repairs to the air con, it would be worth a higher rating.

“basic hotel, good friendly staff, get what you pay for!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2010

Hotel Igea - less than 5 mins walk from the station - good location for a lot of the sites either by walking or jumping back on the underground. However noisy on streets at night and couldnt shut windows due to air conditioning not working.
Hotel basic budget hotel - room very clean, small bathroom but nice hot, powerful shower. Breakfast a little basic but fresh bread rolls and cornflakes and other cereals.
Staff really friendly and helpful.
Only criticism was that the air conditioning didnt work and when we enquired we were told it wasnt hot enough to have it on yet - it may not have been hot to them but it was very hot to us especially at night.

“Definitely will stay again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

Best location. Nearby to everything even to halal shops. Breakfast is good and the room is clean. Worth with what you paying for. It would be better if they have a coffee bar in the room.
