We had booked a double room for four nights and had requested a cot as we were holidaying with our one year old baby girl. We arrived at the hotel to be met in the tiny foyer by a not too friendly chap who signed us in and gave us the key to room 308, no offer of help up the stairs to the lift even though he could see we were struggling. Walking into room 308 we immediately phoned reception to tell him that we had been put into the wrong room as it was so small as to not even have space for our suitcases, never mind a pram and the cot which wasn't there even though it couldn't have fitted anyway. His reply was that was the only room he had left. We went straight back downstairs with all our luggage and explained to him that the room was unsuitable and I showed him my booking confirmation. His reply was take it or leave it. Then a shouting match between me and the man took place and eventually he somehow 'found' another room for us. We went upto room 107 which was a bit bigger and was assured that they would put a cot in for us while we were out. During this whole scenario there was no apology offered and no help offered either.
We couldn't leave our valuable there as the safe didn't work. The bathroom was clean, but the shower was quite damaged and dripped water all over the floor. Our TV was a tiny portable colour TV which I haven't seen since my childhood. Our room had no decorations and the wallpaper was scuffed, as it was all over the hotel. Quite grubby really. We did have a nice balcony though.
Breakfast was served on the top floor which was cold every morning except for the last morning when the heating had been turned on. After seeing us trying to feed our baby on our laps for three mornings eventually we were offered a baby highchair on our final morning. Breakfast was the usual Continental affair: lovely croissant, cereal, meat & cheese. The scrambled eggs and bacon were cold every morning.
The hotel brochure likes to brag about the hotel being soundproofed, this is certainly not so. Traffic could be heard but worse was the conversation and TV from the room next door, banging on the wall did pipe it down though.
This hotel is definitely not 4*, and I would wonder how the stars are awarded. If we had not taken advantage of the good room rate for the area and had payed the full regular price we simply would have moved to another hotel.
A dreadful experience which luckily didn't blight our otherwise fantastic holiday in this glorious city.

The location of the hotel was the high point. The staff were friendly, breakfast was decent, the rooms were ok but the place needs a good clean. There was a used tissue on the floor and a bag under the bed and the place just didn't look like it had seen a vacuum cleaner for a while. I'm not sure how the star system works but I've stayed in equivalent accommodation of 2/3 stars. If we hadn't got a great deal on this place and had to pay full price I wouldn't've been happy but it was cheap considering the proximity to the Vatican. The bed was hard and there was street noise in the night but beds are personal things and noise is expected in Rome.

I booked this hotel as a surprise gift for my boyfriend's 21st and notified the hotel of this, they very kindly gave us a complimentary drink to celebrate. On arrival the receptionists were very kind and welcoming. The room was small but big enough as we weren't really in there much, only to sleep as we were out all day and the view from the room out on to the shops and amazing buildings was lovely. The receptionists we're very helpful, giving us advice on what was the best transport to get to the main features of rome and also with their reccomendations of the nicest restaurants near.
The situation of the hotel was great, two minute walk to the Vatican and all the main transport where we hopped on a city tour bus which went to all of the main Places you need to see when in Rome. We would reccomend doing this as its the easiest way to get around and not to miss anything out, especially the coliseum!
Breakfast was a small selection but it was enough and there was a new choice of foods out everyday.
On departure from the hotel our transport was late which we were panicking about but the kind receptionist rang the shuttle bus company to see where they were as we could not speak Italian, he helped portray our worries to the shuttle driver who in turn made us his priority. The receptionist was very reassuring in a time of great stress and we would like to thank him for this.
I would definitely reccomend anyone to stay here as it is a lovely hotel with brilliant, friendly staff in a great location!
