“BED BUGS-- DO NOT STAY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

My Husband and I were travelling from Canada abroad only for a week with a 2 day stop over in Rome to enjoy the sites and tourist attractions. We decided to stay in hotels this time around as it was only for a week and we wanted to make our trip as convenient as possible. So we decided to book at Hotel Barberini.
After the first night my husband woke up with what appeared to be small bug bite only about 2 or 3 located on his right elbow. We didn't think much of it as they were itchy and just assumed they were everyday bug bites. Upon further investigation onto the sheets we noticed a small smear of blood. At this time we didn't do anything as nothing was for sure to assume it was bed bugs.
We continued with our daily activities and returned to the hotel at approx. 3pm. When my husband jumped into the shower I noticed over 100 bites located all over his body that became very itchy.
We immediately alerted the hotel staff.
The sheet from earlier had already been changed so there was no proof of the blood, minor considering that 100 + bites all over his body.
We immediately switched rooms. Upon check out the next day we asked if we would in any way be compensated for our room at all. They phoned there manager Emilio Oldani. He told us that the best they could offer us was a free hotel transfer to the airport. We stated that that would be unexceptable and that we wanted compensated if not for both nights at least one. He then stated that they are unable to help us in anyway and that they will now not even offer us the airport transfer.
We found this very rude. We are now at home and have to deal with the issue of possibly bringing home bed bugs and the manager wouldn't even compensate us for one night at his lousy bed bug ridden hotel. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE IT IS NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE OR BEDBUGS
I will be uploading photos soon

“Perfect position, delightful staff ... and the view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2012

In the 17th Century the Barberini family controlled a large slice of Rome. Maffeo Barberini, who figures in a series of tapestries in the Vatican Museum (you have to go!) ultimately became Pope Urban VIII. This little hotel is across the street from Palazzo Barberini, now a museum. The position, close to Piazza Barberini for the Metro and buses, and to the Trevi fountain in the other direction, yet on a fairly quiet back street (You don't come to Rome for absolute tranquillity!) is perfect. We were fortunate enough to be given a room looking out on the Palazzo and its vast cedar tree. The rooms are not huge but the corner rooms are bigger than average, with a triangular bathroom which has an opening window. Rooms are beautifully appointed with lots of hanging space, a mini-bar, TV, Aircon and free Wi-Fi. The bathroom is totally marble with plentiful lovely Italian shower gel etc. Breakfast on the 6th floor overlooks the skyline of Rome, which is breathtaking, though not quite as impressive as Florence. There is an excellent choice buffet breakfast. Staff are cheerful, helpful and efficient. And when my wife's lovely new dress was not in the taxi at the airport, they arranged to send it by express delivery to our home. Our only problem was the rather hard pillows.

Room Tip: Room 407 was good

“what a gem”

Last week we checked into this hotel. Unfortunately for one night only. Rome was our last stop on a 7 week vacation and as such we figured that after such a long trip away from home we would be eager to get home. What a shame we could not stay longer. Being picked up from the ship at Civitavecchia by Italy-inlimos.com (see our review excellent) our driver told us our hotel was very well located and was he right. Short walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain,Via del Corso, We droped off our bags and went to catch the hop on hop off bus we had booked. Only a shot walk turning right at the fountain at the end of the road jumping straight on. After a wonderful day we returned to the hotel What a gem. The room was lovely and after a short rest we went off to our Tiber dinner cruise. Breakfast the next morning was great and the view was breathtaking.
Though our stay was short it was indeed memorable and WHEN! we return to Rome we know exactly where we shall be staying and who we will rely on to pick us up.

Room Tip: room 405 was great at the front of the hotel but the hotel is on a very quiet side street.

“Pre-paid for a king room, paid more than other hotel goers and got smallest room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2012 via mobile

We were on our honeymoon and I found hotel barbarini online - chose to stay there because of its location... Location was good about 10 minutes walk to major attractions, safe area but we Pre-paid in full before arriving which was a major mistake!!! We paid 250 euro a night and got the smallest room on the floor while we heard several other guests checking out and in and we paid at least 30-100 euros over them... We could barely fit our luggage in the room with us - i have been all around Europe and I know rooms are smaller but when u pay $300 per night, you expect more especially when we paid for a king room and was given a queen and the smallest room on the floor!!! I will never stay there again - staff was polite but not very nice or welcoming - our AC was also broken the entire time and their electricity barely works... Wouldn't work with my hair straightener not curling iron which both worked perfectly in our next hotel in sorrento which we paid less money for and had a sea view!!!! One last thing - the free wireless is spotty and the key cards to get into rooms take 20 plus swipes to make lights come on! Don't fall for this trap - three star hotel at best, not worth the money. I know Europe and this was below standards!!!
