“We had a wonderful experience at Hotel Bled”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

After reading so many negative reviews, I felt the need to include one that was positive. We loved everything about Hotel Bled. The service was outstanding (and we went to Rome during "high season"). When we arrived at the original hotel we booked we were told they were full and had misplaced our papers for reservation. Luckily, we have dear friends who live in Rome and Hotel Bled was recommended. Our room (actually two rooms w/bathroom) was clean, the beds were comfortable and we were next to the garden. Location is everything in Rome and we could walk to the Colloseum (Coliseum) if we wanted to. There were wonderful deli's and cafes across the street. When we asked for extra towels/pillows, they were there on the spot. Great experience for the price!

“Stay away”

Put simply, there is no reason to stay in this hotel (except maybe the price -- but you can find other similarly priced hotels that are better). I entered my room and it smelled musty; after two days of leaving the window open it improved, but the bathroom still smelled like mildew. The bed was extremely uncomfortable -- to the point where I had to leave the hotel (see below). Staff were friendly enough, but not particularly helpful. Breakfast was acceptable but nothing special. And the location, while not terrible, is nothing great either. (The hotel is a 15-20 minutes walk from the Colloseum, and a 5 minute walk from a Metro stop.)

I stayed in this hotel because someone else was paying for the room. The room was so bad that I left after two nights and paid my own way somewhere else. That shows you how bad it was.

Note: The hotel has rooms in multiple buildings. This might explain some of the disparity in the reviews.

“Bad experience, Hotel is below standard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

We moved to this hotel when our nicer hotel was booked. We stayed in two rooms with 2 people each. One room had a broken door, dirty, smelly bathroom and the bed was full of ants. The bathroom also had ants. When I complained they let me know that there were no more rooms to move to. They allowed me to stay next door in the Daniellea hotel. My daughter had to share a room with other family in the Bled Hotel. Their room also was smelly and the bathroom was dirty. The air conditioning would not work. The front staff was appoligetic and did their best but overall this hotel is dumpy.

I will not reccomend to anyone to stay here. I would rather sleep in the train station than here, the bathrooms are cleaner.

“It's a lot like Rome itself”

It's an older hotel with a lift in a great location to central Rome. To understand Rome you need to stay in a central location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Could it use a coat of paint here and there, yes, BUT I did not go to Rome to sleep or watch TV.
Room was clean, bathroom was smaller, but clean and we had great view of Rome.
So like Rome, its not new or modern but it has charm and works. I will stay again.

“Don't bother”

Aftrer booking I read reviews and was a little worried. I was right to worry - myslef and 3 friends (4 females) arrived aftert 10 o'clock at night and after pulling our cases up two flights of stairs to get into the hotel were greeted by a man asking if I had spoken to him today? Alarm bells started ringing - he told us the hotel was fully booked! He said they were sending us to their sister hotel Grand Hermitage and would taxi us over there. The hotel was the far side of Rome and we would never have booked this as it was far too far out for walking around the city. We had to use taxis and buses which added to the price of hotel.
