“Roman holidays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

This has been our second time in Hotel Nazionale and we must confess that it was a 180 degrees change in comparison with our first visit earlier this year.

From the beginning the staff at the Reception desk was very welcoming and they took their time to provide us with maps and information on what to do in Rome during the holiday season before sending our luggage to the room. We were gladly surprised because during our last visit they barely gave us the room key and indicated the location of the lift.

The room assigned to us was well appointed and in much better condition. It really showed that it was recently updated. We had a magnificent view of the famous Roman rooftops along with St. Peter's cupola.

Breakfast was also improved with a wider selection of fruits, cold cuts and bakery. We highly appreciate having the traditional Panettone on Christmas morning.

The staff at the bar was very helpful and cordial. We really enjoyed sharing a glass of Prosecco with our family and friends while waiting for dinner or just before exploring the restaurants around.

Indeed the best asset of the Hotel is its location: just few minutes away from the most famous tourist attractions, archeological sites, nice shopping streets, beautiful buildings and different types of Restaurants.

Overall we had a great time and we are looking forward to return to Rome soon.

Room Tip: Rooms in higher floors enjoy better views.

“Great hotel in the middle of old Rome.”

Stayed here for 6 nights before and after a cruise. This is a perfect location to see all the sights of Rome. This hotel is right next to the Italian Parliament building and is the safest place around with all of the security around this area. Just a short walk to the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain and 15 minutes walk to Spanish Steps. The hotel is fantastic and has a great breakfast feast included. The rooms are large and the rooms on the east overlook the square in front of parliament where all the drivers of all the parliament BMWs are parked around the square. The rooms that look west have great views of the old neighborhood and St Peter's Dome in the distance. This is the area to stay. Hundreds of dining options are all in this area of old, narrow, cobbled streets. The taxi driver has to get permission from the police in the area to drive into the square to get to the front of the hotel. There is a taxi stand 2 blocks away on Via Corso. A walk back from St Peters to the hotel is a great experience because you can get lost in all the narrow streets. When in Rome, stay here!

“Stuffy Luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We stayed a week from Nov. 18-26, 2011. I must say that our room was breathtaking when we were shown to it. Huge windows that opened over the courtyard Piazza Montechitorio with the Italian Parliment building as our only neighbor. No traffic whatsoever. The room had a large chrystal chandelier like out of Versailles. King size bed. Large bathroom. Quiet. Clean.
The only real down side was the AC had been shut off for the season and the room was on the warm side forcing us to open the 8' tall windows which let in the noise of the morning cleaning, trash pickup, occazional protester, etc.
One of the staff, Patrick, spoke English and genuinely tried to act as our tour guide. The other staff were stuffy and rather brusque. When they tried to charge us 15 euros to print out our shuttle voucher to the airport that really did not go over too well.
their breakfast, while artfully displayed and set up, was the exact same thing every day and all in all was bland and not interesting after a couple of days. The great thing was that around the corner of the hotel was Giolitti, Rome's best gilotteria!
The location was very convenient to walking to the sites. Trevi Fountain is about 3 minutes away. Via de Campo is a main street that leads to the Piazza de Popolo in 15 minutes.
So would we stay here again, it was nice but probably not. It seemed more geared to the politicos, had little to offer we tourists, and had nothing in the way of conveniences in case you needed something. But if you desire quiet, luxury and roominess, this might be worth looking into.

Room Tip: upper rooms, but not the top floor, have the large windows.

Excellent location, all the central Rome sites are within easy walking distance. Very good location for shopping too. Friendly staff, large and comfortable room and good breakfast.

“Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

The base price of this hotel was more expensive than our price point of 200 Euros, but we found a great discount (20%) by paying in advance. Anyway, the hotel is lovely. It has a nice (fancy) public room and a charming breakfast room. The front desk folks were very helpful (and we were clearly tourists of no importance). The room was spotless and the bed was as comfortable as my bed at home. The bathroom was large and well-appointed with full-size hair dryer and rain water shower. We had a room on the back, so it was very quiet. We had a partial view of St. Peter's in the distance (partial because an intervening building blocked about half of it but it was lovely nonetheless). We were just across a plaza, one block down, and across another plaza from D'Oro Tazio (approximate name), my new favorite latte place in the world. We could walk to everything (Vatican and Trastevere are a little far but the ancient Rome sites, Piazza Navona, Campo Fiori, and the Trevi fountain are just short strolls away. (The hotel is on the square that houses the parliament building (designed by Bernini), so there were demonstrations going on and I'll bet that during the week the front rooms can get some noise.)

The breakfast was very good. Several kinds of bread and rolls, hams, and sweet breads )pastries), some fresh fruit, cereal, yogart, and eggs you could soft boil for yourself. They have a self-serve cappachino machine (ugh) but they will make you one that is okay from another machine. (But do yourself a favor and stop each morning for a 1.10 euro tiny but heavenly cappachino at D'Oro.)

If you want a place that is higher end than the moderate hotels, but not quite luxurious, I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: A room in the back on a higher floor is best for quiet and view. However, some of the rooms on the...
