“Not a three-star hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

The hotel is placed in a great location, just 10 min walking from Spanish Steps and the main sites. When we entered the room, there was a really weird smell coming from the furniture and the carpet (that reminded me of my grand-mothers home), however after leaving the window open for a few hours every day, we could not notice it after a couple of days.

The room was quite small but warm (temperature), the bathroom was the best place as it was rennovated and clean. The matrices were quite old and a bit uncomfortable for a 3 star hotel.
We had clean towels every day and room service was great. I have to say though, that it was quite noisy since the cleaning would start around 8 from the corridors, using hoover that was walking us up.

Our breakfast contained only a few things and the quantintes were not always sufficient so if we would go after 9,30, we could not find enough a couple of the days we stayed.

All in all, it did not meet our expectations for its price but perhaps.
Have in mind the extra charge of 2euros per person per night that is in force for tourists in Italy: although we had pre-paid the hotel, this was not included and the receptionist did not informed us during checking but at the check out! We noticed though that he informed some other customers that they arrived when we were leaving

“Good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We found the staff very friendly and helpfull. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It is in a great location.

Room Tip: We stayed on the courtyard-side and it was very quite-however there is nothing to see but buildings.

“Great location, tiny room....”

I stayed at this hotel in April,2011. The location was excellent. But the staff was not so friendly and the rooms were very small. In all fairness my wife complained about the room and they did upgrade to a top floor suite. average size room not a suite.

Room Tip: Reseach in details before you travel to Europe.

“Remember, it's a 3 star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Excellent, excellent location. Near all the main sights. We walked to everything and never took a taxi. Mid range priced Resturants are close by. Our double room was a little tight but comfortable, clean and quiet. It faced the inner courtyard. Staff was very helpful, but remember no room service. They told us to remember it's a 3 star hotel not 5. Free Internet in the room and was super easy to log onto. Pay the extra $10 a day for the breakfast. It makes the morning start go easier. Not great but average fare. I'd stay there again.

“nice location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

the Diplomatic is in a very convenient location as it is walking distance to most sights and 10 mins walk from the Vatican. the rooms are neat and clean though the breakfast could be better. the lift is minusicle...but thank God they have one...it can accommodate only 3-4 people at a time. the reception staff was helpful in pointing out sights etc. our camera was left in a cab and they were helpful in getting it back but not most efficient!!there is no room service though a convenio is nearby.
