I booked this hotel after cancelling my first choice hotel, and I'm glad I made the swap. Really, I couldn't find anything to complain about in this hotel - the room we were allocated was a good size double, with a perfect view of the church. The room was comfortable, clean and the en suite very well maintained: even the 1950/60s built in radio still worked!
Breakfast was also very good. I've read other reviewers complaining about having to pay for bacon and eggs - seriously? Try something different! You're in Rome - if you want an English breakfast guaranteed, don't leave the UK.
We also ate at the hotel for our first night, and had the set menu. The meal was well cooked and very tasty, and again, nothing to complain about. Pretty good value I thought for the hotel - they're usually overpriced. There's a fantastic view across the city from the restaurant too.
The Mecenate Palace is under five minutes' walk (unless you're slow) from termini station. There are plenty of restaurants and shops in the area, and although it's not a quiet area, we had no problems with sleeping. Termini is somewhat seedy - think Kings Cross in the 90s - but there are so many people around that it doesn't feel inherently unsafe.
It's often a gamble, trying to find a good value, clean, comfortable place to stay, but the Mecenate Palace did exceed expectations, and I would definitely choose it again for a future stay.
