“An Hotel with Attitude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I score this hotel 0 out of 10 purely on the attitudes and organisation of the receptionists and management. I'll deal with these at the end, let's concentrate on what is good.

First thing is the location, perfect for the Roman Fori, Colosseo and, because of the proximity of the bus stops and Metro anywhere else in Rome and its locale you want to go.

Next the room. Nothing special, exactly what I would expect in any 3* plus hotel in Italy and we have stayed in quite a few. However, I had booked a standard double room and Palatino's website states that the room would contain a large double bed. We had two single beds, pushed together but still only made up as single beds. Not a good start.

I had also requested a smoking room. Now I know that this is not guaranteed but this is a 200 room hotel, it is the beginning of February and judging from the breakfast and bar traffic. the hotel is, shall we say, far short of full. So as I said, room nothing special.

Next, the breakfast. Absolutely superb and the breakfast staff were very friendly and helpful, no problems here.
On to the bar. Again, friendly barman, good range of drinks and cocktails, very comfortable lounge area, however, the bar closed at midnight.

Still there is a good suprmercato over the road in the direction of the Metro where you can stock up with nibbles and late night alcohol.

Now for the reception. All the receptionists we encountered adopted a 'superior' attitude and seemed pre-possessed with their own self importance. Knowledge of English was good except for the last receptionist we encountered. We had previously arranged to leave our 2 suitcases at the hotel pending our flight later that night. When we went to collect our cases, all knowledge of English had disappeared! Draw your own conclusions.

Pricewise, no complaints, everything is clearly laid out so 'you pays your money etc'.

I have said enough except that we are returning to our normal hotel Valle in the summer, just up the road, which we normally use for our stays in Rome.

Room Tip: Get one overlooking via Cavour.

“Great Location & Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I've been back to Rome every year since 2006 (my 7th visit will be in March 2012) and I consider the Palatino my home away from home. Besides the great location and service, the value is great. Rooms are fairly large for Europe and the amenities are good. The monti neighborhood has many nice restaurants and shops and is very pleasant for strolling. The hotel is within walking distance of major sites (e.g. Colosseum and Forum) and is down the street from the Cavour Metro station. Would recommend this hotel highly.

Room Tip: Rooms are quieter on the Leonina side of the hall rather than the Cavour side where the main entranc...

“Good Location, Acceptable Price, Excellent Hygiene”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Went to Rome with 2 friends, so we share 1 bedroom with 3 beds. The rooms are spacious, the toilets are clean with ample amenities. They also provide bide in the toilets.
The location is the killer, as it is really within walking distance from the Colosseum, Domus Aurea and the Roman Forum. We ended up going to the Colosseum just about 3 times a day.
The hotel is also quite near from the Central Station (Termini), which can be reached (walking) in about 20 minutes. Just go along Cafour and you'll find plenty of restaurants, gelateria and shops quite conviniently near from the Hotel.
The staff are very friendly and helpful too. We then decided to stay at their sister hotel in central Florence and the front desk staff helped booked the room for us.
Very recommended if you're traveling in mid-range budget.

“Recommended, excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Located in Palatin hill, although not as central as some hotels, this hotel is in a comfortable walking distance of many attractions and very near to an underground station and Termini train station. We walked to every place.
The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated, breakfast buffet was good and the staff very helpful and friendly.

“My stays at the Palatino”

I have been to Italia 16 times. I have stayed at the Grand Hotel Palatino on the Via Cavour in Rome at least 6 times. I would never stay anywhere else in Rome for the price. It is clean, efficient, and within 3 blocks of the Roman Forum and Colosseum.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side away from Via Cavour. Also, there is a great Irish pub immediately...
