“Friendly and Lovely”

After our less-than-stellar experience as "first class" (yeah, right, sure) passengers on the night train from Paris to Rome, this hotel came as a huge surprise. The room was gorgeous and comfortable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yes, it's in a rundown part of town and there are lots of people living there who do not appear to be Italian. On the other hand, the front desk could get us a taxi almost immediately, and there were a number of really fine restaurants within walking distance.

They don't have a dining room per-se', but they have a great free breakfast buffet, and they'll happily sell you sandwiches and other things later in the day (although it's a little slow since the bar mad does the cooking).

“Nice place, Bed not so comfortable.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

The hotel has a nice feel once you enter the lobby. The rooms are small by U.S. standards, but normal for European. The bed was not comfortable by any standard and the shower stall was quite small, with intermittent hot water and low water pressure. As a "homebase" for touring Rome, it worked well for our visit. If you rely on a hotel to make the trip comfortable, this probably isn't the place for you.

“EXCELLENT HOTEL - LOUSY DINNERS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

This hotel was one of the best on our 10 day tour. We were assigned a "superior" room by luck and it was great. A corner room with front and side windows and a full bathroom that included a jacuzzi tub and plenty of room. What a releif from the stall showers that you could hardly turn around in.

The hotel does not have a full dining room, but accommodates tours with catered meals that leave a lot to be desired. I would have preferred no meal plan to the bland dinners we received. There is an excellent deli type business just down the street that has good food at reasonable proces. The breakfast were very good for Europe.

The hotel is located in a central, but seedy part of town. Some of the women on our tour were afraid to go out of the hotel on their own.

Room Tip: Try to get a "superior" room if available.

“I LOVED staying here!!!”

I used the Best Western Ambra Palace Hotel as my home base when visiting Rome and couldn't have made a better choice! As a woman traveling by herself, this is a bold statement for me to make. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more informative, the room was clean and perfect for my needs, and the food was amazing! If you are looking for a boutique-type of hotel for your stay in Rome, this is it!

Room Tip: Take the staff's suggestions... they are amazing to work with!

“Hotel good but the surrounding area lets it down”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Room cosy with a large bed and well equipped, although the carpet could do with being replaced and the wallpaper above the tv area was thick with dust, never sorted out how to work the air con.
Bathroom had a very small shower cubicle with doors which had to be opened in a particular way so as they would not fall off.
Breakfast choice good, although I have never had peas for breakfast before.
Staff were efficient, polite, welcoming and very friendly.
Close to station and metro, not many Italian restaurants in the area but ok if you like Indian food. We liked to be back at the Hotel early evening as we found the area made you feel uncomfortable.
