After our less-than-stellar experience as "first class" (yeah, right, sure) passengers on the night train from Paris to Rome, this hotel came as a huge surprise. The room was gorgeous and comfortable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Yes, it's in a rundown part of town and there are lots of people living there who do not appear to be Italian. On the other hand, the front desk could get us a taxi almost immediately, and there were a number of really fine restaurants within walking distance.
They don't have a dining room per-se', but they have a great free breakfast buffet, and they'll happily sell you sandwiches and other things later in the day (although it's a little slow since the bar mad does the cooking).
