“Great refuge from the bustle”

We have stayed here before and like that it is not in the heart of touristville. Everyone there is so welcoming and helpful. You feel like you have returned to see a good friend. While this is off the beaten track, the Metro at Piazza Bologna is close and we prefer that to the bus although a main bus will take you into the city.

“Great rate, good facilities”

Great newly renovated bathroom and a double bed - bonus for a solo traveler on a budget - not always that way!
Lovely outdoor area, though I didn't use it. Great neighbourhood.
Only downsides - I sleep with windows open and it was a little noisy on the street - not a big deal, looks like they had a/c, and I could have closed it.
Also - had a few problems with public transit. There are multiple lines that run past the hotel, but I only knew of 2 (36/84). When first coming in (on a Sunday) I was told at the termini that those lines didn't run on Sundays, and spent money a few times on cabs before the hotel corrected me - only the 36 didn't run. Also, ran into a few times where buses didn't show or I would end up having problems with connections - so just check when you are leaving the hotel what else runs nearby - the 90 is close, and I believe the 4? There are the streetcars as well...Just hard to be fully informed at times! Also - subway closes at 11:30, buses at 12, and there are a few night buses in a few places, but be prepared that you might need to spend a bit on cabs as well as hotel rates. (About 8-10Euros from the Termini). But facilities were nice, staff was nice. Have to pay a couple Euros for WiFi, but that's just fine!

“We loved it and going back!”

The dates for our stay did not go back 2 years. We have stayed at this hotel 2 times in the past - the last time was 2 years ago. We are going back in October for 4 nights prior to a cruise. We like staying at this hotel because of the grocery store a few blocks from the hotel, an ATM close by, a wonderful pizza restaurant close by plus other restaurants.
Transportation to the city center is great with many bus lines running on Nomentana.
The desk clerks help with tickets for the bus or show you where to buy them across the street. They have a very good breakfast - you can special order items for breakfast.
It is our home when in Rome!

“Great in so many ways but one problem was insurmountable”

I had stayed at the Villa del Parco in 1998 and returned in May of 2011 because I remembered its beauty, its charm, its lovely garden, and the friendly staff. But unfortunately, my experience this year -- which, I know, is probably unique to me and only a select group of others -- soured me.

My traveling companion has severe asthma, and we had checked the website ahead of time to ensure that the hotel offered air conditioning, which she needs when she stays overnight. However, contrary to what the website said, there was no functioning air conditioning at all, and the room was stiflingly hot and unbelievably stuffy, with no air flow even with the windows open. I mean, it was like Dante's inferno in there. My companion simply could not breathe. The clerk was very nice and found us another hotel at about 10:00, but we were also charged for the night, which I think is very bad customer service. (We didn't even stay there!) We arranged for this hotel because the website said there was air conditioning, and there was none. I don't know why we would then be charged for the night, especially because we had to leave for medical reasons at about 10:00 and didn't get to spend the night we were charged for! Because of this, we will not stay there again.

If the weather were cooler, and if we didn't have this medical issue, I'm sure things would have been different, so I don't want to steer others away from this charming place. But the poor customer service bids me give it only two stars.

“Home away from home in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

We've stayed at this lovely old villa at least five or six times - with our children, with family members, and alone. The staff are courteous, warm and very helpful. The front desk staff speak English - not a given in Italy! The rooms are small, but are air conditioned (essential our first visit in the sweltering summer of 2003). It is a B & B arrangement, and the breakfasts are yummy. They have a sweet little garden where one can have relax after a day of sight-seeing, in the warm Roman evenings; have breakfast under the trees, or entertain guests who stop by for tea, coffee or an evening drink. It's on a direct bus line to the ancient center of Rome and the main train station, or a 10" walk from the Metro. I returned on a business trip, and felt perfectly safe as a woman alone. I would go back anytime and relish the chance.
