“Nice place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and can't say a bad word against it. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Quick to point you in the right direction for what ever it may be. The beds are by far the most comfortable I have ever slept in apart from my own at home. My only problem was that the internet was extremely slow and someone or thing was trying to attack my computer with a dns cache poisoning attack, according to my internet security software. The rooms are not large but they are clean and have tea and coffee makings. A big plus for my wife and I. The hotel is close to the underground and main rail station as well as the hop on hop off bus stop. If we ever come back to Rome this is the place we will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room preferably at the back of the hotel.

“Great hotel and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Mascagni Hotel during Christmas. The hotel service has great. The Gentleman at the front desk were both very helpful. The breakfast had a great variety and it was very good. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were large. They provide you with a code in order to use one of their computer stations. The location was great, since it is just steps to the Metro station and the buses also pass near the station. I will greatly recommend this hotel. We are planning to go back in June and we are planning to stay at the Mascagni again.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 306 and 307, out of which 306 was by far the largest.

“Small cosy and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Mascagni in January and it lived up to our expectations gained from reading other reviews on this site. The hotel web site gives an accurate description and our room was like the one shown in the photographs. We booked a taxi from the airport online before we left and it cost 40 euro, worth it to be driven directly to the hotel in around 40 minutes. We booked a superior room, which although not large was adequate and tastefully decorated. We requested a quiet room and were given one on the fourth floor, with a balcony at the back of the hotel overlooking a church. We slept well and were not disturbed by noise. The heating in the room can be controlled, so although the hotel was very warm we could turn the heating down in our room. We had a courtesy tray for tea and coffee and the slippers, robes and fluffy towels were welcome. The room was comfortable, kept very clean and linen was changed daily. The shower was powerful and the water hot. Although WIFI was free it was not possible to connect in the room and we had to go into the lobby area. The breakfast room is charming and the breakfast staff friendly and attentive. Breakfast suited our needs very well. Each day we had fruit and yogurt followed by scrambled eggs and toast or pastry. (If you expect full english you will be disappointed.)
The hotel is located opposite the expensive Grand Regis hotel in quite a nice neighbourhood. On the first night we walked 15 mins to the Trevi fountain. The walk to the Roman Forum is about 25 mins or 2 stops on the metro which is a few minutes walk from the hotel. It is a long walk to the Vatican but we enjoyed it. We had to take a taxi back from the Vatican due to a public transport strike and it cost 20 euro.
We booked a tour of the Colosseum and the Vatican with Angel tours and can highly recommend them, our guide Lindy, was superb and really brought things to life.
On the first night the hotel recommended Target restaurant behind the hotel, we found it disappointing and did not go there again. We liked La Fontanella Sistina near the Piazza Barbarina, 5 mins walk, which is simple, served good fresh food at a reasonable price. We also ate well at Monti near the termini station.
We would stay at this hotel again as we prefer small intimate hotels which have some character and this represents value for money.

Room Tip: Superior rooms at the back are quieter, have small balconies and tea and coffee tray.

“Keep looking!”

Downsides

Terrible wifi did not work in room. Had to use common areas, and you have to go to the frnt desk to get a new code every hour.

Staff knew very little, not even the schedules of major attractions. We lost out on some experiences because of their misinformation.

We asked for restaurant recommendations and were constantly told to go to a place called target. One late night, short on time, we went. It's awful. Obviously there is some sort of kickback to the staff for sending people there.

Our room smelled like urine if we did not open the balcony doors. Gross.

The only upside i see is the decent location.
