“Good Hotel”

My Wife and I stayed here for two nights in early February.
Reception was efficient, the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful.
The room was OK for our needs. Decorated to a reasonable standard. Decent bed, good shower (which I broke by fiddling with the Jacuzzi settings but the handy man repaired!). Mini Bar and TV (BBC World the only English speaking channel) and air conditioned. However, the air con was either broken or unable to heat sufficiently as since there was snow on the ground, the room was a bit “fresh”.
Breakfast was good. Decent selection and quality.
The hotel is located on the North side of the main railway station. Turn right out of the hotel and in 50 yards there several bus stops and a ticket machine. 4 euro for an all day ticket on bus, tram and metro. The main buses are the 60 that goes to the coliseum (there are loads of these) and the 62 that goes close to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Vatican etc. (we waited ages for this and none came). I was told every 10 mins or so but according to the Tourist Information office, there is no timetable!

“Maybe it was 4 star once”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I wanted to really like the Turner hotel as it has charming decor, friendly staff and is in a pretty good location to see Rome however there were several niggles throughout our stay.

We stayed at the Turner for 3 nights in February, which unfortunately co-incided with some very cold weather. However, I did not expect the cold weather to follow us indoors, up the lift, along the corridor and into our room! I could literally see my breath in the cold air of the lift and corridor. When voicing our concerns about how cold our room was I was told that several rooms also had no heating (we were not informed of this at check-in) and that we could not move rooms. To the hotels credit we were offered a heater over-night and more blankets. The heating was fixed later the next day.

Our room was okay - quite small but fairly clean however the bathroom is very tired and the shower cubicle is tiny and the curtain sticks to you making showering a far from pleasant experience. Oh and water gets everywhere, so much so that we had to resort to using towels on the floor as make shift mats. Water temperature in the bathroom never really got above luke warm. I would also expect more in the way of luxuries for a 4 star hotel, e.g shower gels etc.

Breakfast contained a good selection as previously mentioned however they are very slow at keeping food, cutlery, milk etc etc available and the tables cleared. As for the bacon and eggs being kept warm by two candles - this isn't really good enough.

Overall I have to say that based on the above I would not stag again - a pity as the hotel in itself is actually quite charming.

“good value for money”

We stayed at the turner mid week in January so it was very quiet. The hotel receptionist when we arrived was lovely really friendly and helpful but then we never saw him again and he was replaced with a grumpy miserable man for the rest of the week. The hotel was is a good location and we spent most of evenings walking to the Trevi fountain to eat out as the area around the hotel is not so nice. The hotel was clean and our room was lovely dispite having no view at all. For the price we paid i think we got a real bargain.

“Okay but expected better.”

When arriving at Hotel Turner, I must say I was highly impressed by the cultural decor and the pleasant customer service we received. Unfortunately to say, I wasn't impressed with much more after that. It wasn't a horrible stay but at the same time it had none of the amenities that I would expect a 4 star hotel to have. When attempting to order a late night snack we realised that there was no room service so we had to leave the hotel to find something to eat. Neither did it contain the small luxuries a hotel should have such as bath robes and toiletries. The room was clean apart from the bathroom which was also clean but a bit dingy. Not to mention it was absolutely freezing. In the morning for breakfast we were disappointed with how slow the replenishment of food took, also we were disappointed by how long it took for someone to clean the tables that were left. We ended sitting on a table that had left over bacon from the previous person.
As stated before, the people working there were absolutely pleasant, but unfortunately there's more than good customer service which makes a good stay for me.
If you are looking for a clean place to stay whilst visiting Rome then I guess this is the place to go, but if you're looking for luxury then I wouldn't suggest Hotel Turner.

“Good hotel, clean rooms, excellent service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We visited Rome in January 2012 for a 3 day break and were very pleased with this hotel. Located close to Termini and towards to north - east of the city we found it a good location with a bus stop right outside. We walked to most places around the city which from this location did sometimes feel a long way but I feel that you get the best experience of a city by walking, you see things you would miss if you jumped on a bus all the time. We found the room to be extremely clean, comfy beds although it was two singles pushed together so ended up with a small gap but this was no problem for us. Perhaps there could have been a folder in the room with some info about the hotel, how the a/c & tv worked, what time breakfast was served and some local info about buses etc but if you asked at reception the staff were always very helpful with good English.
We dealt with 4 different reception staff and they were all very good but we wanted to say a special thank you to the man who helped us after my partner thought his wallet had been lost/stolen whilst out & about. He immediately phoned the last shop we had been visited to try to locate it which saved us a long walk back to try to find the wallet ourselves.
Breakfast was very good - plenty of choice. Fresh cakes and pastries, cold meat and cheese, cereal, toast, yogurt, fresh juices, tea & coffee and set in a lovely dining room.
Overall, we could not fault our experience at this hotel and would stay here again.
