“One of the worst hotels in Rome”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2004

We stayed in the Hotel Lugana over Valentines weekend in 2004 and left after the first night. The staff were unpleasant, the hotel was dirty and the double room allocated was two single camp beds in a single room. The second camp bed blocked access to the minute bathroom and the room smelled very strongly of damp. Unfortunately we were unable to find an alternative hotel on the first night but decamped to a clean hotel as soon as possible. The hotel may be less expensive than its rivals but the quality of the hotel was considerably less than a three star. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this hotel. Rome is too beautiful a city to have your holiday ruined by a terrible hotel.

“Overbooking a problem”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2004

My wife and I recently stayed at the Lugano march 15-march 20th. On arrival at 21.00hrs we were informed that only a single room in which a camp bed had been installed was available, instead of a twin which we had booked; free mini-bar offered as compensation. Next morning no change inspite of promises to the contrary the night before. Throughout the week we witnessed several similar instances of overbooking. We eventually got a twin room on Wed 17th. Three-star is a mis-leading description, for this Hotel. Attitude of some of the reception staff left a lot to be desired

“Very very moderate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2004

I stayed in the Lugano hotel in March 2004 for six nights. The lady at the hotel reservation office at Termini station said the hotel is "very basic", well, so it was. The double room (101) I was given was tiny and somewhat dark, moderately furnished. The outside street noise was very loud plus there was some repairing upstars being done by the hotel so the alarm clock was not really needed. Earplugs would have gotten handy. The hotel stuff was arrogant and not helpful at all. Conclusion: spend some more time choosing a better hotel if you want REAL three-star quality.

“Not impressed”

I know that you get what you pay for and this hotel was cheaper than most but I still think that we could have found a nicer room at the same price. Location is OK. Walking distance to Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps, Capuchin Crypt, and Metro. Room was small with older bedding, paint, curtains. Kind of dreary. Staff was OK. Breakfast was OK - cereal, fruit, bread, ham, cheese... Nothing really negative to say but also noting to sing about. The whole place was rather unimpressive.
