“Good price and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

This was my first trip to Rome. I didn't have any expectations except that I have a clean room, private bathroom, and somewhere to sleep. I was on the first floor near the front that looked out over the street. I have NO COMPLAINTS!! Hotel King met all my expectations and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was perfect and was within walking distance from everything.

“Never book this hotel if you want clean modern facilities!”

Stayed here for four days and this hotel ruined my great Rome experience. We were stuck on level one, the room was situated at the end of the bar so we had to travel through smOke infested booze bar just to get to the room. Staff refused to confirm our airport transfers via ph and were rude and sly. The lift was torn apart and in bits at the bottom of the stairs but this was "completely safe" the bathroom had a dirty shower curtain which flooded the bathroom and with luggage there was literally no where to stand in the room which had peeling wall paper and mould. Our friends had a slightly better room. Breakfast had no hot breakfast options or even pastries. Service was non existent there. This was so bad my travel agent has black listed this hotel.

“Perfect Place to Get a Feel for Rome w/ Comfort !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

We stayed at the Hotel King for a week on our Honeymoon in June 2011...We had never been to Europe and were not sure what to expect. After reading tons of reviews both good and bad we made reservations for the Hotel King. I don't know how we got so lucky because this place was the perfect hotel for us ! I can not say enough about the location. Again, we had never been to Rome and had no idea where anything was but since the hotel is so centrally located our trip was so much more enjoyable. Hotel King sits at the top of the Spanish Steps offering some amazing views and people watching not to mention history. From the balconey of the Hotel bar you could look out and see the buys city all around and take in years of history all at the same time. The front desk staff spoke english and were able to help us set up tours, which by the way, a great double decker bus tour is literally just around the corner. Whether it was wine, espresso , food or gelato all we had to do was walk out the front door and choose from the many options right there. It is also just down the street from a beautiful square with one of the many fountains in the city. A short 5 minute walk and we were at the Trevi Fountain. But I must say the best part of the Hotel King is a man named Flavio. He runs the bar and loves to meet new people. Every day we would ask him for a great lunch place or how to get somewhere ! One night he made us an amazing italian dinner on the rooftop garden of the hotel. AMAZING ! We'll never forget talking about Roman history with our Italian friend while smoking cigars and sipping wine. During the day you can soak up the sun on the rooftop garden that overlooks the entire city and hear the nearby churchbells ring. Breakfast was a perfect start to the day each day, home made pastires, and the best coffee ever all on a flower covered terrace.Yes, there are some things that could be updated but really are you traveling around the world to stay in a hotel room. We were leary bc of all the reviews, but we were perfectly content. And the flower coverd balconey def added to the charm. I actually loved the fact that there was no wifi in our room, I mean hello you are in an ancient city full of history, romance and charm. Update facebook later lol. Our week couldn't have been anymore perfect and the Hotel King was such a big part of that. If you go make sure to have a glass of wine with Flavio on the balconey and tell him his TX friends Heather and Lane said hello :) Stop reading reviews and book it :)

“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

I've stayed in Hotel King 7 or 8 times in the past few years. The reasons for going back are value for money, situation and the quality of staff. The hotel has been modernising different parts on an annual basis, and although it may be seen by some as a bit 'old', it's comfortable, clean and welcoming. There's good A/C in every room, and excellent heating in the winter.
It's 2 minutes from the Spanish Steps or the Barberini metro stop, less than 10 minutes from Termini, so is very central & accessible.
The staff could not be more pleasant or helpful, nothing was a problem for them. That comment extends to porters, kitchen staff and chambermaids, not just front desk staff.
I hesitated before reviewing HK, as I don't want everybody to rush there! Seriously, unless you're in the mega rich brecket, you can't do better than this.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are a bit noisy, but not excessively so.
