“never again”

Very disappointing....We went there and we saw nothing like what we saw in the internet.!!!!!
The room was very dark, like a cell,no balcony ofcourse and the only view was the back cement walls from the nowhere...No decoration, curtains like a child's handcraft ,poor breakfast.
When we complained about our cell-room the receptionist was like we were crazy and didn't know what we were talking about!!!! He said that the room was just the same with the one we saw and he wasn 't even sympathetic with us.He was kind of rude and didn't like it at all.
Fortunately a blonde very polite lady the next day gave us another room, not that it was good but it was a little bit better.
The only good thing is the location even though quite strange at nights....For the Greeks is like "omonoia"....but the termini was very closed.
Finally,if you use a hairdryer don't forget to take your own because this one was like a girl's toy.

“clean, friendly staff, close to Termini station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I have just returned from Rome, it was my 3rd stay at Scott House. The hotel is a little more expensive than last year however they have made rennovations and much improved their breakfast service. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. If you travel solo and if you book in advance, request for rooms 516/517 since are equipped with larger beds and are a little more spacious than the regular single rooms. To add that the location of the hotel suits the traveller perfectly since it is very close to Termini station and one has a wide choice of transportation means : subway, buses, trams. It is also very close to Santa Maria Maggiore and several buses stop right in front of the hotel ( eg bus 70 that connects to downtown - Largo Argentina - return). There are plenty of tourist restaurants and shops in the area, including also fast foods and a super market next to the hotel, plus a bigger supper market just a little down, next to Maggiore. I shall definitely stay in this hotel on my text trip to Rome.

Room Tip: single rooms 516 & 517 are more spacious.

“You get what you pay for :))”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We got a very good deal on the price but it was ok for 2 nights. Room was clean, towels changed, good breakfast included in price. We had a room at the last floor and the view over the rooftops of Rome was great.
I've always been aware that Termini is not the best area in Rome since I'm a repeat traveler to Rome, but it suited our budget and we know what to expect.
It is very good if you pay 50 euro/room as we did :)

“Good for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Our flight was for next day after our cruise, so we needed a place to stay for one night. Since we were traveling by train, this place was perfect, as it was only about a 5 minute walk from Termini station. The place was not hard to find once you were on the right street. However it was quite a hike up to the 4th floor where the hotel was actually located (each floor had a different hotel). It was only after we dragged our suitcase up, we realized there was a tiny lift (enough for maybe 3 people) with a grey door that looked like it was part of the walls on the 1st floor. We arrived early for our check in, so they provided us with a key to a locker room to store our luggage.

The room was actually big with high vaulted ceiling. It was very basic with a phone, small TV, A/C, and fridge. You had to check out the remote for both the TV and A/C at the front desk. The bed was okay, but it didn't really have any blanket, it was more like a thick sheet. They also had free Wi-Fi, since our room was close to the front desk, it had pretty good signal. Because our flight was really early, we would miss the include breakfast. However the front desk was quite nice and packed us a breakfast instead. It included croissant, nutella, yogurt, biscuit and juice.

Overall, this was a basic hotel that was worth the price for our one night stay

“Adequate for a night, close by the train station.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We needed a hotel room for a one night stay in Rome on 21st October, somewhere close to the railway station and chose the Scott House Hotel, after reading various hotel reviews on tripadvisor. First impressions are not good as the hotel entrance is via a rather dodgy looking hallway, guarded by a few odd looking characters standing on the pavement beside a number of rubbish bags. To be fair, the rubbish bags were lifted soon after when we went for a walk that afternoon. The street wasn't as bad as we first thought and we soon felt a bit easier with the location, knowing it was only for one night anyway. The actual hotel reception is on the fourth floor, accessed by a very small lift. The reception desk is also very small, however the staff are polite and helpful and our front facing room was clean and tidy, if a bit sparse in decor. The room was a good size with a clean practical bathroom, the shower was brilliant. We soon left for a walk in the city centre, which took a leisurely 30 minutes or so and had a lovely evening enjoying everything that Rome has to offer. We returned around ten and went to bed feeling rather tired, having travelled down from Milan by train that morning, which is a lovely journey in itself. The only draw back in having a front facing room, is the noise from the street, which does not stop until late on about 3am. Breakfast was surprisingly nice, with cereals and pastries, which suited me perfectly. We were able to leave our luggage in a store room after we checked out which gave us another day to enjoy Rome, before catching the train to the airport, for our flight home.
The Scott House Hotel is about 200 metres from the train station and does what it says on the tin! It is very basic, yet provides an adequate hotel room for a one or at most, two night stay in Rome. Don't expect any luxuries, just put your head down after a busy day and try to get a good nights sleep. The great thing is you don't have far to pull that heavy suitcase before boarding the train for the next part of your journey. All in all, not as bad as we thought when we first arrived and if we needed a room close to Rome station again, I would probably go back but would ask for a rear facing room. At the end of the day, it was a room at a price and we knew that before we set foot inside the Scott House Hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms are basic but clean and tidy. Ask for a rear facing room, as front rooms are very noisy.
