i teach a college course in januarys on the art of italy and have recently returned from this year's journey. this was the second time i have stayed at hotel emmaus and my previous experience was fine, in fact i now believe that it perhaps gave me a false sense of safety and security. we returned to the hotel after a long day of touring to discover that at least 3 rooms in the hotel (304, 305 qnd 306) had be broken into. my room was 305 and it had been ransacked with many things of importance to me having been stolen (ipod, camera, chargers, alarm clock, etc.)...the thief had even stolen my shoes and left his nasty pair in the middle of my room. the worst part of this is the response fro the hotel staff. the desk manager refused to call the police and reluctantly called the hotel owner after much drama. the owner eventually took me to the police station which was an unbelievable experience in itself. my students are convinced this theft was an "inside job." i only know that it has been over 2 weeks since this happened and i have never received an apology or any compensation fro hotel emmaus. although there are many good things about this hotel (especially location) i will NEVER stay there again and i would urge anyone else to find a safer alternative. the other guests who were victimized i'm sure would agree!
