“Terrible”

This hotel is terrible. Do not go there, you will regret long time. The hotel have heating system only in a few rooms, they gave us a good room after 2 poor rooms. Do not go there in winter, the answer of butler was: we don't have heat in rooms, and the answer of receptionist was: it's a law in Italy which doesn't allow us to have more than 22 degrees in rooms. Also the receptionist with glasses was swearing us in italian language...ALL IT'S AWFUL, and I don't exaggerate on this... I am a man,

Room Tip: do not go in winter and ask for one room with heating system if you do

“It is perfect for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

I booked this hotel as a surprise for my Fiancee 30th birthday and I must admit after reading the reviews I was slightly concerned. We paid £40 a night for a double room, so I was realistic with what to expect and it was perfect!
Its within walking distance to most sights, or metro line if by the end of the break your feet are hurting, metro was fab 1 euro to anywhere local and very easy to use.
Ok, so the hotel is somewhat "quirky" it is dated and could do with a facelift but then of course you would be paying more and I felt it added to its charm and was very old italian style.
The room was huge and clean, bed was made every day and fresh towels. The maid was very friendly.
Breakfast is minimal, but for us great we only wanted a quick bite before we set off for the day so a crossaint and cereal was no problem.
The coffee at breakfast is out of a machine and is at drinking temp, does the job. On the other hand the coffee they make in the bar was the best coffee we had in Rome and only 1.50. The bar in the hotel is very reasonable, water only being 1euro.
Staff were friendly, gave us a map and highlighted different routes for us.
It amazes me that people put such bad reviews, Giglio Dell Opera dont claim to be 5* and it was perfect for what we wanted. Somewhere central, clean, warm, safe and friendly. We would go back and would recommend xx

Excellent location 10 minutes away from Colosseum and walk distance from Main Station in Rome.
Room was clean and spacious by the standards of old Rome, with fine picture and well decorated.
Breakfast was sufficent , but they can do better offers.
Staff were helpfuk and polite
Good value for money

“Not brilliant - but Rome made up for it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

The Grand, it ain't! But honestly, if you are on a budget like us and want a hotel close to the station with a good variety of relatively cheap eateries on the doorstep, then you don't do too badly.

The room was clean and cleaned regularly and the shower hot and constant. Ok, the toilet seat wobbled alarmingly but we could live with that. The room had probably last been decorated in Mussolini's time but had once been quite grand. We could only find three Italian channels on the TV but actually picked up a lot of Italian from them, which can't be bad.

The lift floor was a bit suspect and we tended to stand around the edge. The breakfast was adequate but I wouldn't recommend the fruit juices!
And the welcome? It was polite if a little indifferent - I felt more a cash cow than a venerated guest!!

But Rome is wonderful - intimate and inviting with buildings of warm, soothing colour and delightful surprises around the corner; amazing architecture and stylish residents. Don't miss the views and the peace of the Borghese Gardens, truly an oasis.

Room Tip: We were at the back and with the window open we could hear all the air conditioning units from the o...

“It was ok- but you don't come to Rome to stay inside :)”

The hotel was very dark inside but we didn't really mind because at least the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Bathroom was also adequate but every time someone took a shower, the glass door would leak water and it would get flooded. I felt bad for the poor housekeeper who had to clean it afterwards.

The one thing that stood out for me was when it was time to leave (a very early morning), the concierge called up a taxi for us and brewed some good italian coffee for me and my friends. I love that kind of hospitality. Will probably stay again when I am in the area.
