It's hard to match the Forum for location if the ancient city, as opposed to St Peter's, is where you want to be.
The room upgrades are worth paying for it seems and the hotel does very competitive rates off season with the additional incentive of a loyalty discount if you return! Whilst I'd echo the other comments regarding the prices in the bar and restaurant I can see how they're comparable with similar establishments. The view from the bar alone is worth pushing the boat out just once.
With so very many excellent places to eat and drink nearby though it would be criminal not to sample what the rest of the city has to offer and yes your money does go further.
If you want views that will live with you forever and especially if you're staying in Rome for just a few days and want to make the most of your time with a very central location and you feel like a real treat the Forum is hard to beat.
The service and cleanliness and location were all superb.
